Nausea seems to be gone! Now I'm ravenous

14 weeks tomorrow and don't want to jinx it but I seem to be mostly out of the woods in terms of the nausea/vomiting finally! I'm also finally able to eat food with some flavour and for the last week and a half all I've wanted to eat has been dal/biryani.

I'm still in the habit of snacking every few hours as this was what kept the nausea away, so during the day it's usually a bagel, crumpets, some popcorn or reduced fat salt and vinegar crisps.

I'm possibly overthinking but I'm now in my head about eating too much as I've only just stopped worrying about keeping enough food down! I'm going to a wedding this weekend and the non-maternity dress I'm wearing is quite clingy so you can definitely see the beginnings of a bump (but I equally think I could just look like I've gained weight round the middle in an unflattering way).

I'm also in my head a bit as my BIL reminded us about not needing to eat for two (apparently part of my SIL's PPD was weight gain after pregnancy so it's well meant), and there's a similar warning on my maternity NHS pack.

I think I ate about 1900 calories yesterday, so it doesn't seem major but I know appetite ramps up in the second trimester. I'm 5'6 and was 65kg at my last weigh-in last week, have kept up working out a few times a week.

Is anyone else trying to think about healthy snacks (any tips?) or being careful with what they eat? It's hard to picture ignoring cravings or real urges to eat.

Remember that you are actually growing another human being inside of you, and those things are made of protein and fat. :)
Also, remember to take your pregnancy vitamins, cos the little human will take all the vitamins and minerals that it needs and leave you feeling pretty drained.
Best of luck!

Hi there, it's a labour ward midwife. Please stick to the sensible diet and exercise. Drink water if you are not sure if you are truly hungry. This will help you on your D-Day and beyond. No need to eat for two in pregnancy. Even in the last trimester all you need is an equivalent of 2 extra slices of toast. Put the money toward quality, not quantity.

If you're hungry eat, you just need to be sensible about what you eat and not eating too much sugar because of gestational diabetes risk.
You'll probably find you get less hungry again in 3rd trimester when the baby is squashing your stomach
