Subchorionic Hematoma 9 Weeks - Experiences?

I’m under the recurrent MC clinic and had a scan 2 weeks ago at 7 weeks, all good. Just had a follow up today and baby is thankfully measuring 9 weeks and wriggling away healthy. So pleased. However, the dr has seen a small bleed just outside the sac on the outside of the newly formed placenta. She asked me if I’ve had any bleeding or spotting and I haven’t. I’m on progesterone and fragmin (blood thinning injections) for medication reasons and she thinks the progesterone is holding off any spotting.

She described the bleed as small and underneath the baby and the sac, rather than on top, which she said is for favourable in this situation. Also she said the baby is significantly bigger than the bleed.

We are booked for a follow up in two weeks and I’ve been told no intercourse, no lifting or no exercise apart from walking. There’s a chance of three outcomes; it can come out on its own, it can disappear on its own, or it can cause a miscarriage.

Has anyone had one around the 9 week mark and could share you experiences from a follow up scan please? Trying not to panic 😞

That sounds very dramatic to what I've been told. I have a 2cm one visible on scan at 8+4 and have had a bit of bleeding on and off. They were very unconcerned and didn't say to stop doing anything, or to do anything different to normal. I've been doing all the things you've listed! I was told small ones rarely interfere with pregnancy and usually resolve on their own. I'd try not to worry, with things looking good at this point and with it being small I'm sure it will be fine.

@SErunner thank you for your reply. Yes I think from reading, unless it’s a big one then there shouldn’t be too much to worry about.

I think it’s hard not to worry with having had so many MC and with a blood clotting disorder, everything is always slightly more complicated.

Thank you for the reassurance and I’m glad your pregnancy is going well x

I also had rm before my second baby, I understand how anxious you must be feeling.
I think it was my 7 week scan where they saw a small haemotoma and warned that it might bleed. I didn't have any bleeding at all but it was nice to have had the heads up just incase as spotting would have made me assume the worst.
I have no idea if the position of the bleed or your clotting disorder is leading them to make this more serious but certainly I wasn't made to think it cause a miscarriage and all was indeed well.
Hope things go well for you

@Chasingbaby2 thank you - this has really helped. Usually googling and mumsnetting causes me to panic more, but on this occasion, it’s really helped.

The position of the bleed with it being low down and away from the baby was a positive she said today, so I hope that’s the case.

Really glad to hear your pregnancy went well and your story has made me feel a lot better, thank you

Update: I had another scan at 11 weeks and it had shrunk a lot. It’s still there and hoping by my scan on Friday (when I’ll be 13 weeks), it will be gone!

Lovely update @Jellybelly888! Mine had disappeared at my 12 week scan 👍🤞

Chasingbaby2 · 10/09/2024 14:10

That's great news and thanks for updating 😊

I had this too! It had disappeared by my 12 week scan and many told me that it's likely very common but because a lot of people don't have scans before 12 weeks they go unnoticed usually.

Best of luck, I'm confident bubba will be absolutely fine Smile
