37 weeks period pains

First time mum, currently 37+2. Last few nights I’ve been woken up in the night by fairly bad period pains, is this normal or is it a sign labour might not be far away?

they come in waves so might be 5/10 mins of them, then they ease off enough to go back to sleep. No tightening of my bump so not Braxton Hicks I don’t think (also been having plenty of those although usually during the day!)

Sounds like you might be in the early signs of labour! I's be ready to head to the hospital soon just in case!

Do you think? They’ve been on and off for almost a week now!

I don’t get anything during the day, just at night. It’s so strange not knowing whether it will be tomorrow or in 3 weeks!

I am 37+1 today and this is my third baby. Last night I was woken by period pains, with my first I do remember similar but they were accompanied with regular tightening and would go on for 2-3 hours then stop. I don’t think they happened this early either, I didn’t give birth to him until I was 3 days off 42 weeks I hate to say.

With my second I had nothing like this. A load of braxton hicks from the get go but no pains or signs at all, gave birth to him via elected c section at 39+3 days. With my current baby I’m booked in for my c section at 39+2 but I have always had this fear this time around that I won’t get to that point and last night has made me worry even more.

Today I also just have an on and off low level period type pain in my pelvis and lower back. My first gave me SUCH bad ptsd about birth that I am terrified of experiencing anything similar again, hence the elected c sections.

How are you today?

I've had the same (37+6) on and off for a while and when I mentioned it to my midwife she said its just Braxton Hicks and they tend to be more intense during the night when you're asleep because your body is completely relaxed. She said they also could be happening during the at but if you're busy and up and about pottering on then you won't notice them as much :)
