Pregnancy bleeding following molar pregnancy

Hey, new poster here.

I have recently found out I am pregnant (still very early as I am a key tracker). I started spotting 4 days ago, starting off very light pink, then dried blood but today I am bleeding, it’s still light bleeding in comparison to normal period but now I have cramps too.

I had a molar pregnancy earlier this year which resulted in surgery and monitoring through Sheffield hospital.

I called my EPAS team on Thursday and they said it’s nothing to worry about, but I have a friend who works at another maternity unit a bit further away from me, and they fast tracked me in for a scan on Friday. They said they can’t see anything yet so are expecting me to be a lot earlier than my tracking app tells me (5w5d) but that the lining of my uterus looks to be thickening which is a positive sign. I felt reassured on Friday but with more bleeding today and the pains, I am fretting again.

Has anyone had implantation bleeding for longer than 1-3 days and have you had cramps with it? I am going to call EPAS again tomorrow but I’m becoming more and more annoyed that they dismissed me straight away after the first phone all given my history (I have also had 2 other MC’s prior to the molar but dating back to 2021)

Hi, I can’t say anything about the molar I don’t have any knowledge or experience. My epu doesn’t see anyone really until 6 weeks. I hope you can get through to yours though. Could you ask your gp to take blood tests two days apart, or get them to refer you to epu if it’s them who do that?

Do you know when you ovulated? How many dpo are you?

I ovulated late one cycle when I conceived, on day 24. Instead of saying my lmp I worked out a better estimate. Using ovulation day go back two weeks directly and that’s an estimated lmp. The dating initially goes off lmp being 28 days with ovulation on day 14.

So I’m 26 days dpo at the moment, which I know is mega early to get in to EPAS however, with me
being a higher risk because of the molar, any bleeding or pain should really be checked and hcg’s monitored which is why I was fast tracked in on Friday under the radar at a different hospital to my local one.

I am still currently under the specialist unit for the molar and have completed a urine sample for them this morning too (it’s standard every 2 weeks and coincidently my sample pot was delivered yesterday) so they should be able to tell my hcg from that, but the results from that won’t come back until the end of next week now.

If my local EPAS don’t manage to get me in tomorrow, my friend has said she will transfer me over to their hospital and get me in which is reassuring. I’m hoping it’s implantation but my optimism is being tested by my realism at the min :-(

Hopefully your EPAS can get you in. If not it’s good that you have a hospital you can get seen at. They should be able to check your hcg.

Hi op, sorry to hear you are going through this. I had a partial molar pregnancy years ago. I thought the advice was not to become pg until you had completed the follow up? Had your hcg levels reached zero before you began ttc again? I would ring Sheffield for some advice.

Hello, it is but my hcg had fallen to 0 within the 56 days post surgery (surgery was feb and it’s a 6 month follow up). We had spoken at the beginning of last month as I said I wanted to try again and they agreed there wouldn’t be any more of a risk as I was due to be signed off from them at the end of this month anyway with a steady few months of normal periods and 0 hcg results. It just means that if this pregnancy does go full term, I would need to do a set of tests after birth.

I had a partial molar pregnancy in February and I am pregnant again too.

I always remember the nurse at Sheffield saying ‘I can’t guarantee that your next pregnancy will be a successful one but I can say almost certainly that it won’t be a molar again’

Could you ask Sheffield to get in contact with your EPU to try and get you in? I hope everything works out ok for you.

I’m going to give my local EPAS a call tomorrow and speak with my bereavement midwife to see if she can get me in tomorrow. If not then I will give Sheffield a call to hopefully step in.
The bleeding has slowed right down again now, don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t filling a pad but there was a significant amount when wiping, but any amount of bleeding is still bleeding isn’t it. and with the period type cramps as well, I just feel deflated today.

It sounds highly unlikely to be anything to do with the mp and the chances of another one are really unlikely. It's really horrible being og after a mc, you worry about everything. I have 2 children but have had 2 mc as well. All 4 had bleeding so I totally get that you are on that horrible roller coaster of not knowing. Not much to be done but wait... and distract yourself as much as possible. Good luck with it all op.

Thank you so much. I’m a natural worrier in general life too so add this in to the mix and I am my own worst enemy. I’m keeping everything crossed though x
