Definitely newborn unless you are expecting a large baby. Up to 1 month is up to 10lbs.

I took tony baby which was fine for mine as they were both 6lbs odd x

Thankyou, I'll look at getting some newborn things. I have all the other sizes just not new born 🫣🥴 maybe I should have got some more of it in new born.
Is first size the same as newborn?

I bought all 0-3 stuff thinking it would cover from newborn, but it was enormous and they were both 8/9 lbs. Luckily we got brought some in hospital!

InTheRainOnATrain · 17/08/2024 18:32

Aren’t newborn and up to 1 month the same thing? They’re usually up to 10lbs and would fit an average sized baby that’s around 7lbs at birth and they would wear them for about a month before outgrowing. Just different brands using different names I think! But yes that’s what I’d pack unless you’ve been told to expect big or small.

albalass · 17/08/2024 18:34

Yes first size is same as newborn. You'll often find quite big differences between shops in their sizing. I found the vests and sleepsuits I got from a supermarket (Asda I think) tended to be quite a bit smaller than the ones I got from John Lewis. My baby was just over 7lb so fairly average and the newborn size was slightly big for the first couple of weeks but it was fine, and they grow so quickly. Don't buy many of the first size stuff - they'll grow out of it very quickly!

I'd take 3 vests and 3 sleepsuits to the hospital so that if you're in for a few days you've everything you need.

FoleyHuck · 17/08/2024 18:35

We took up to 1 month as he was predicted to be 7-8lb.

He was 6lb 7oz and the hospital had to lend us a sleepsuit and vest from the SCBU unit until DH could get to town the next day.

So I'd say pack a couple of newborn / up to 7.5lb size even if they predict over!

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 17/08/2024 18:44

My boy was born 7lb2 and had to go into tiny baby, newborn swamped him! He didn't actually go into 0-3 until he turned 3 months...I packed 0-3 in my hospital bag too and laughed looking back 😭

anon2022anon · 17/08/2024 18:47

We were told to expect a big baby, DD was a tiny bit shy of 10lb. We took both first newborn and up to a month (in case they were wrong) and she did fit in newborn/ first size, but not for long. She was also long in the body, and it was this that only just fit, the width was fine.

HettyCletter · 17/08/2024 19:11

Newborn should be fine unless you’re expecting a very small or large baby (I’d say under 6.5lb or bigger than 10lb). Mine were 7lb 10oz, 7lb 14oz and 8lb 14oz - even the biggest was fine in newborn and didn’t wear up to 1 month for a few weeks.

WYorkshireRose · 17/08/2024 19:14

DS was a large baby (9lbs13) and very long, so didn't fit into any of the newborn/first size vests/sleepsuits we took with us. DH ended up having to nip to the nearest supermarket to buy some 0-3. I would expect that's not typical though.

GodspeedJune · 17/08/2024 19:16

My DD was 8lb 7oz and went straight into 0-3 vests. She had room to grow but they were fine and safe.

No, they're often different sizes in lots of shops. Some up to 7.5lb and some up to 10lb.

CheeseWisely · 17/08/2024 19:50

Agree with @Overthebow I've found newborn tends to be up to 7.5lb (notably up to 9lb in John Lewis and Peacocks) where 'up to 1 month' is usually up to 10lb.

sel2223 · 17/08/2024 19:54

Newborn definitely.

My little one came out much smaller than expected so even newborn was massive, my mum had to go and buy a few 'tiny baby' clothes.

The 0-3 month coming home outfit I had so carefully chosen didn't fit her until she was almost 5 months old 🙈

I found newborn and first size about the same. 0-1 month slightly bigger and 0-3 months massive.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/08/2024 20:06

I took 0-3 months.
They were huge!
DM bought some newborn baby grows that morning. DS and I spent the first few hours of his life doing skin yo skin contact anyway.

Unless you live a very long way from a large supermarket/m&s/next /boots or out of Next's next day delivery area, then i wouldn't worry too much.

hereismydog · 17/08/2024 20:11

I’ve bought a couple of each as birth weights/sizes are so variable!

bakewellbride · 17/08/2024 20:11

Get 3 freezer bags, label them - tiny, newborn and 0-3.

Put vests, hats and baby grows into each bag.

This is what I did, everything is so easy to find this way and you're prepared for any size.

Avie29 · 18/08/2024 11:46

I took tiny baby and newborn and 0-3 lol she was 6lb8oz and fit in the tiny baby, but my first was 7lb8oz and required 0-3 xx

dbeuowlxb173939 · 18/08/2024 11:50

Newborn will work for most sizes but don't buy loads of newborn sized clothes because if you have quite a big baby or one that grows quickly they won't fit for long, my second DD was 8lb7oz and fit newborn size for 2 weeks.
Get a few basics in 0-3 months size too so you have things available if the baby is big, and you will use them eventually as sleepwear anyway even if they don't fit straight away.
Probably wouldn't bother with the tiny baby size unless you know you're being induced early or something, someone can always do a supermarket dash for you if the newborn size do end up being too big.

Yes they are both up to 10lb usually. 0-3 months is bigger.

SarahB88 · 18/08/2024 19:52

I know weight estimations aren’t always correct but mine was pretty spot on, was predicted to be 7lb10 baby was 7lb7. I had no idea on sizes so took an up to 1 month one and the rest was 0-3. She’s 3 months now and only just fitting in 0-3! We had to emergency buy newborn clothes as I didn’t have any! Also make sure you get tops and sleepsuits with the fold over mitts, so much easier than actual mitts. My baby’s hands were so small and the mitts kept coming off.

Superscientist · 19/08/2024 09:30

I found Asda first size best they were 6-9lb. My daughter was 6lb13 and most tiny baby only went up to 7 lb with upto 1 month being 7-10lb. The 1lb shift in the size range meant we could skip tiny baby. It was still a bit big and I would say if they were under 6.5lb getting tiny baby would be worth it but the first size would see you through the first day whilst you get someone to pop to the shop for you.

We found Asda & tesco ran small and Sainsbury's and m &s ran big. A mix of the companies meant we didn't outgrow all of the clothes in one go and smoothed out transitions between cloth sizes.

Yep, we were predicted 7-8lbs, average on all centile charts etc, got a 5lb 10oz dot 😅
