Does nausea get worse? 7 weeks pregnant

UrsulaSings123 · 17/08/2024 10:27

Hi I am 7 weeks pregnant tomorrow and for the last couple weeks I have been feeling very nauseous. This week especially to the point where I am feeling so miserable as it just seems to be all day long and I cant eat and drink properly. I have just bought some sickness bands and ginger lozenges which should arrive tomorrow. I'm finding it extremely difficult to get going in the morning.

My question is, will this get worse? I already feel like it is so bad I'm scared of it getting worse! I don't think the GP would prescribe medication because I haven't vomited, but it's really impacting my life and everything I am eating and drinking (or not as the case may be!).

I feel your pain! It really varies. Some women don’t get it at all, some women only a bit, others for longer (or entire pregnancy). It’s unique to the individual. I had it for about half of all pregnancies- it’s the worst part for me and I still get flashbacks. Once it goes I feel like a pregnant goddess though!

StellaCruella · 17/08/2024 10:59

Mine leaked around 7/8 weeks and lasted until around 12/13 weeks

ttcnumero1 · 17/08/2024 11:01

Mine peaked around 9 weeks. Got anti sickness meds as I could not eat or function. Still on them now at 18 weeks. Tried a day without and felt sick all day again. But I am on a lower dose. Feel like I'll be one of those people who will be sick for the full 9 months!

I feel you OP! I’m 6+1 and have been feeling nauseous for a week. It’s so debilitating! I’ve thrown up a few times but the worst part is the lethargy and constant gnawing in my stomach. I’ve got anti sickness bands and am going to stock up on all things ginger today. Have found that getting outside in the fresh air (while it feels impossible) really does help me feel more like myself.

sel2223 · 17/08/2024 11:38

It's different for everyone. Some women don't get sickness at all, some only in the first t trimester, some poor women suffer the full pregnancy.

In my first pregnancy, my sickness didn't even start till 7 weeks, peaked around 12 weeks and lasted till 19/20 weeks.
This time round, I've had sickness since about 5.5 weeks, I'm now about 7.5 so got a long way to go

UrsulaSings123 · 17/08/2024 11:40

@ttcnumero1 we're you vomiting as well, or did the Dr prescribe them just based on nausea? Eugh I can't imagine still feeling like this in nearly 3 months!

Hi OP. Fresh air, boiled sweets and don't let yourself get hungry, it will make the nausea worse. You might not feel like it but snacking often will help.

I found that mine didn't get worse, or peak, it just remained consistent until about 14/16 weeks. But the above helped.

Cinai2 · 17/08/2024 12:49

Hopefully you’re like me - I was very nauseous is weeks 6 and 7 and feared the worst, but then from week 8 onwards it wasn’t too bad!

Oldermum84 · 17/08/2024 13:03

Mine peaked around 10/11 weeks and stopped around 16/17 weeks. You can get medication for it.

All day nausea is so debilitating, often worse than actually vomiting. You have my sympathies.

muggart · 17/08/2024 13:58

All day nausea is awful, if you lived in the US or portugal you would easily be prescribed medication for that.

I think it's rare to peak at 7 weeks unfortunately, I expect it will get worse for you and you may well end up vomiting.

strawberry11 · 17/08/2024 14:05

I got hit with terrible nausea around 7 weeks, I'm now 11 weeks and it's been pretty consistently bad. Agree it's totally draining feeling sick all the time, I basically just nibble snacks all day - mints, salty crackers, fruit, whatever I can stomach that day. Looking forward to being on the other side of this!

muddlingthrou · 17/08/2024 14:20

Week 9 and 10 were the absolute pits for me and the nausea started lifting in week 15. Good luck OP - for me, it felt like it lasted forever at the time!!!

I was vomiting maybe 4 times a day, but was eating very little so when I was vomiting it was more dry wretching than anything. My doctor said we don't have to suffer through it and be a martyr so I was on board with that. I really don't think I'd have coped with even one more week of feeling like I did!

Lilac90 · 17/08/2024 16:55

I think I'm in the minority but for me the nausea improved slightly after 8 weeks (didn't feel great but I no longer sat in tears because I felt so sick I didn't know what to do with myself).

If you're struggling I would recommend going to the doctor though so you don't suffer unnecessarily.

AskewAtTheTreadle · 17/08/2024 16:58

@UrsulaSings123 you can absolutely be prescribed medication for pregnancy related nausea. You don't have to vomit to be worthy of help. It's affecting what and how you can eat and your quality of life. They'll probably start you on cyclizine to see if that helps, and hopefully it will.

Dogwithtoebeans · 17/08/2024 17:03

I may be in the minority too but mine was bad until 20 weeks ish and then stopped but came back as soon as I hit the 3rd trimester. Luckily I only have 7ish weeks to go now. Definitely don’t suffer in silence and do ask GP for meds, it’s the only thing that helped me (plus a packet of digestives by my bed!).

pwblwc · 17/08/2024 17:04

You can definitely get a prescription for nausea without vomiting. Speak to your GP, I found cyclizine really helped (but did make me very sleepy).

CaptainCabinets · 17/08/2024 17:05

Ah, I feel your pain! I had constant nausea up until about 13 weeks. Week 10 was about the worst for me, I think.

My GP did prescribe me some anti-emetics (cyclizine) for the worst days because I explained it was really affecting me at work to the point I was worried I would vomit on a patient (I’m a nurse and there can be a lot of smells) and only took them when I was desperate.

Top tips: sip water throughout the day (flavoured sparkling water helped me!), eat little and often as the nausea got worse when I got hungry, keep some boiled sweets on you. Weirdly, the only other thing that helped me other than the cyclizine was salt and vinegar Discos! Grin

I know it feels absolutely endless (I cried most days because I couldn’t bear it!) but it usually improves. If it doesn’t, there are treatment options.

owladventure · 17/08/2024 17:06

Eat little and often rather than 3 big meals. Carbs are better for nausea. And as pp says, don't let yourself get hungry because that makes nausea worse.

Monkfish24 · 17/08/2024 17:13

I was the same for my entire first pregnancy. Exactly the same this time round and I'm now 14 weeks. I'm hoping it doesn't last the entire pregnancy this time. Do speak to your GP though, I've been given antisickness and anti reflux tablets - both times - which takes the edge off a bit.

owladventure · 17/08/2024 17:14

Also, psychological trickery.

Instead of telling yourself "oh I can't take another 3 months of this, when will it end" - count down until your due date, rejoice as the number gets smaller, focus on how very very temporary this is and the progress you're making.

So many things you can do to improve how you feel physically and emotionally.

Antiemetics have side effects, including constipation which you may not enjoy much more than nausea.

See how you get on with modifying your diet - never let yourself get too full, never hungry, frequent carb snacks instead of big meals, sip on water before you're thirsty (because dehydration will make nausea worse too), etc. Count down instead of up.

FinallyMovingHouse · 17/08/2024 17:16

My nausea didn't get worse through any early pg - just started one morning and was pretty hideous. It did get worse with each pg though (sorry!); by number 3 I was vomiting twice a day.

Same here - nausea and vomiting until 22 weeks. Brief respite, then back again recently. I'm 28 weeks now and counting down!

soymilknosugar · 17/08/2024 20:06

It’s so tough isn’t it! I’m coming up for 9 weeks now and my nausea has been horrible since 6 weeks or so. Though I wouldn’t say it’s peaked at any point - just been steadily awful! Nibbling often has helped me even if I don’t feel hungry as like pps have said the worst thing is to let yourself get hungry. I buy myself all my favourite foods so I’m more enticed to eat and fizzy drinks have helped on the days I could barely stomach anything. Solidarity, hope it gets better for you.

UrsulaSings123 · 17/08/2024 21:09

Thank you everyone for all your tips and experience. I'm still feeling sick now and have done 90% of the day. Even went to sleep earlier for a few hours I felt so rubbish. Managed about an hour earlier where I had a small dinner and managed to give my son a bath! I didn't really have any sickness in my pregnancy with him. Hopefully this will be my last pregnancy all being well so will only have to go through this awful nausea once! I will definitely be speaking to the doctor this week if this continues. Even if I can have something to just take when it's really bad at least I'd be able to function more.
