I had my 20 weeks scan as I was told I have partial placenta previa. The sonographer said please don’t worry this does happen and yours is literally on the edge. We hope it moves to at 32 weeks will scan again. On the notes it’s says placenta covering, placenta to be checked at 32 weeks.
I have re-searched this and one thing it says about placenta previa is to avoid sexual intercourse.
as mine was advise partial and on the edge am I safe to continue with my relationship sexually? I haven’t been advised anything?
any one had this? Thanks

I had this (placenta touching but not covering cervix) at 20 week scan and was advised to avoid sex and strenuous exercise, due to the risk of heavy bleeding. It had moved up by the time I went for another scan at 28 weeks and was fully clear by 32 weeks. I think most of the time they move, as your sonographer said. Personally I would avoid sex, just in case, but it might be worth checking with your doctor / midwife if you’re not sure. Sorry it’s a bit of a stressful situation, but hopefully it will move by your next scan x

I had a full coverage and wasn't advised any of that...but that could have been a mistake. I didn't even get offered another scan until 38 weeks (all my previous pregnancies had spontaneous deliveries by this point!)

I stopped sex etc when I continued to have some spotting after things.

Can you speak to your midwife?

PS mine moved completely out the way by about 35 weeks (I paid for a private scan, luckily as again baby was born before 38 weeks..)

I had a low lying placenta partially covering the cervix at 20 weeks. It had moved upwards by 28 weeks.

I had consultant led care (and he was exceptionally good) and was not advised not to have intercourse. But it was nearly 27 years ago and he also said a G&T would do no harm at all.

@RosesAndHellebores Ahh this is very interesting. I think nower days even the low risk things you are advise not to do.
funnily enough when I told the doctor I was pregnant I was nervous as was flying on holiday the next week and he said all ok to go take iron tablets, do no smoke and don’t drink excessive enjoy your holiday 😅 I of course didn’t drink any alcohol let alone excessive ahah! Funny how people say different things.

IME the doctors are less risk averse than the midwives who provide blanket, one size fits all advice which becomes a mantra.

@OnNaturesCourse thanks for replying! Ahh right so nothing mentioned to you and yours was fully covered. I think I will probably carry on as we have been. I am in no pain and has no spotting. Midwife appointment in September so will ask them then too. X

@Immysmumma thanks for replying.
yeah it’s not covering it’s literally on the edge. I’ve had no pain or bleeding/ spotting so far and she just said don’t worry we will scan again 32 weeks didnt offer an earlier one.
im okay with the info and if I need a section then this is okay, il follow the recommendations. I would of course prefer a vaginal birth so the healing time is quicker afterwards.
I have midwife appointment in sep so I think I am going to carry on as I was and ask them unless anything changes in the meantime x
