Hello everyone,

I noticed this rash on my leg, it is itchy and a bit warm.

I m 32 weeks pregnant and seriously freaking out.

Does this look like a bullseye rash (Lyme disease) to you ? Or more like a mosquito bite allergy?

Thanks !

I’m a bit unsure really, could you pop into a pharmacy and see if they could check and advise?

TerribleWoman · 14/08/2024 18:07

Yes I think so. Send to the GP for antibiotics.

Birdsongsinging · 14/08/2024 18:08

Yes. I had it a couple of years ago and it started like that and then got darker. Did you see the tick?

Birdsongsinging · 14/08/2024 18:09

If you didn’t see a tick I doubt it.

PacoJazz · 14/08/2024 18:09

Thanks to everyone who replied.
No I didn't see the tick.

My mosquito bites often react like that. Are you in a tick or Lyme disease area? Not all ticks carry Lyme.

BumBumCream · 14/08/2024 18:12

Are you somewhere where ticks carry Lyme disease and have you possibly had a tick bite?

I live in London and have been spending some time in the garden lately.

Does it itch ? IME tick bites don’t itch. Not a doctor though.

I didn't find any tick on the bite or on me.

Is it painful (rather than itchy) and do you feel well in yourself?

I have had treatment for Lyme's due to tick bites twice. Never seen the tick, my bullseye rash was more obvious than yours though. One of the bites did occur in London so don't discount due to location. I would recommend being seen by an out of hours doctor if possible.

PacoJazz · 14/08/2024 18:21

@TerrierOrTerror it's more itchy and a bit warm.
Others I feel normal for now.

Doctor. It is a bullseye tick bite

Raaraathelionrah · 14/08/2024 18:25

Yes- I’ve had Lyme disease 3 times. To and get antibiotics for 21 days. At the same time make sure you’re taking vitamin d, multi vits, magnesium, pro biotics really boost your system to fight it. Follow the nice guidelines and show them to your GP

MaMisled · 14/08/2024 18:46

Ticks don't actually bite. They latch on and burrow their heads into skin, stay there for days until they're engorged with blood, then drop off. You probably would have noticed. There are some weird insect bites and infact I've just been to pharmacy about one which made my whole lower leg red, hot, very itchy x hard but with only one tiny little blister thingy. Go see a pharmacist to check it for you.

bunnykins123 · 14/08/2024 18:55

To me that looks like a horse fly bite. I get them a lot (both UK and abroad) where I get a warm, very large swelling similar to yours with a red bit in the middle. That's normal for me though, it may be worth checking with a GP just in case.

Doctor. It is a bullseye tick bite

Based on what? It
Doesn't look like that at all.

Op it looks like a reaction to a bite, probably horsefly, draw around the edge with to check the tracking.

Take an anti histamine

worriedcms · 14/08/2024 19:12

My mosquitos always always react like this. Hydrocortisone cream twice a day otc brings it down

Peaplant20 · 14/08/2024 19:19

I would personally call 111 and get antibiotics asap, it’s very effective in ensuring you don’t catch Lyme disease IF given within a certain number of days

Beamur · 14/08/2024 19:25

I reckon you've had a bad reaction to an insect bite..Get a Sharpie and draw around part of the inflamed area so you can see if it's spreading. Have it looked at by a GP if you can just for reassurance as you're pregnant.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 14/08/2024 19:28

It looks like a horsefly bite to me too.

Autumn1990 · 14/08/2024 19:32

If you are in any doubt book a gp appointment for antibiotics. Lymes disease is very rarely an issue if treated quickly but can be if it isn’t.

Lemia · 14/08/2024 19:32

I had a tick bite that went like that last week. I kept a close eye on it as my friend has Lyme disease so I knew what to look out for. It was gone 2 days later so was just a reaction to the bite. Yours looks like it’s probably just inflamed. I would give it a couple of days and see how it goes. However with being pregnant you might want to be seen sooner

AnnaMagnani · 14/08/2024 19:39

Also a doctor. To me it looks like a normal wheal and flare from a mosquito bite. Plus you were doing a low risk activity- gardening in London not hiking in long grass in Scotland.

Maps of Lyme across the UK show no diagnoses in London.
