Terrible first trimester symptoms

I’m 12 weeks today and really struggling with first trimester symptoms 😟 I wake up not feeling too bad but as the day gets progresses I can barely function. I feel like I’m going to faint, severe nausea which usually ends in throwing up a few times. I don’t ever want to eat anything and the only thing I can really stomach is cereal and plain pasta. Anything too strong in flavour is off the cards and I can’t even open the fridge without gagging. I thought I’d be starting to get better by this point but I’ve been like this for the last 6 weeks. It’s really starting to get me down. Is all this normal at this point or could there be more to it? My midwife only works on a Tuesday and Thursday so I can’t even ask her! Thanks in advance ā˜ŗļø

It's normal usually it will start to get better in the coming weeks but unfortunately there are some unlucky women who suffer throughout pregnancy with sickness. I remember thinking I would never get pregnant again that I would couldn't be able to do it again , you soon forget . Have you spoken to your Gp ? There are medications they can prescribe for that nausea

Unfortunately, it's very normal. I was the same. 15 weeks today and in the last few days, I've started to feel a lot better.

Thank you both! Glad you’re starting to feel better. I didn’t realise feeling sick could be so draining and make you feel so down!

Have you been to your GP? There are medications that help.

Elisabeth3468 · 09/08/2024 19:56

It's definitely normal and depending on the person it can last or can completely ease.
I felt sick from 6 weeks until about 13/14 weeks then it gradually wore off. I'd say from 15/16 weeks I didn't feel sick at all and could eat completely normally. Hopefully it eases soon, first trimester is awful!

Definitely call your GP for some anti sickness medicine. But yes I’d say it’s normal šŸ˜”

Oh my goodness had the same as you. The sight of food overwhelmed me with nausea & I struggled to even be in my kitchen. Bananas had to be covered because the smell was awful, I threw up after our food shopping was delivered. A lot of food tasted like soap or salt apart from toast and porridge which I had to eat throughout the day.

No one offered me anti nausea tablets! I think there was something against taking them unless necessary? Wish I'd had them.

also got motion sickness in cars and threw up in a car park & outside John Lewis.

It was nuts, I survived it though, hope yours gets better, I think mine got a better gradually.

I was the same at the beging I ended up ring doctors and they gave me some anti sickness tablets it got better from 16 weeks xx

sel2223 · 09/08/2024 20:19

Hope the MS gets better for everyone soon.

A new one for me this time round - insatiable thirst!!! I've never drank so much water/juice yet i can't seem to quench the thirst and my lips are super dry.

I'm only 7 weeks!

Thank you so much for all your comments! I knew I wouldn’t be the only one struggling, but at the same time when you’re the only one in the house that feels like it, it can be very isolating. I’m not normally a poorly person either and when I’m genuinely ill, I just get up and carry on normally, but this has completely knocked me. I’ve had a few miscarriages in the past and this is the first time I’ve ever gotten this far in any pregnancy, so I’m trying not to complain because I know how lucky I am, but equally it’s absolutely writing me off! Hope everyone else gets some relief soon, hopefully not long to go!

First trimester is really really hard. There's so much going on and your body is completely exhausted. It took me until about 14-15 weeks to really feel better (and then other symptoms started lol but the extreme fatigue and nausea went away).

Be kind to yourself and try and accept this is just how it is - and I mean this kindly. I drove myself into depression by thinking I'm failing at pregnancy, comparing myself to pregnant friends who were doing amazing and going to crossfit until month 8 while I struggled and turned into a couch potato. Pregnancy is just hard.

And don't believe women when they say they're doing great either. After a while, I started telling everyone Im doing great too when asked even though I was barely surviving and had massive complications. I had just grown tired of explaining my very private medical issues with everyone!
