12 week screening scan booking mucked up

Hia,

I have had my booking in. Midwife has estimated due date of 28th Feb even though I think it’s 8th March but not sure (based on conception as can’t remember when last period was exactly).

I believe that makes me currently 10 or 11 weeks pregnant and have been patiently waiting for my screen dating scan letter.

Haven’t received one so have contacted both community midwives and my assigned midwives (been transfered to a local group).

Community I can’t get any contact from. Local group was able to reach over text but said that at my booking on 16th September that they will book the scan at that meeting! Which means I will be 16 weeks pregnant before they even start to book and would miss it the window!!

Any advice here? Do I keep on at the locals, keep trying community, go back to my GP, go straight to the hospital scan department and pester them.

What am I supposed to do thank you 🙏

You need to keep on to your midwide/maternity unit. The GP can’t book your scan, they will just refer you back to midwives, and the hospital cannot book your scan. It all gets booked via midwife x

I'm confused - I thought you'd had your booking appointment. Was your scan not booked then? Is it possible you've had the appointment through on either the NHS app or one of the pregnancy notes apps? (This is pretty common I think - I've never had a letter, appointments just appear on mypregnancynotes.)

It sounds like whoever you contacted at your local group got the wrong end of the stick if they've told you that the scan will be booked at your booking appt in September.

Can you try to get in touch with the midwife who booked you?

Thanks Quantum. I can’t get through to the ones who booked me. I did explicitly ask and she to wait for the appointment by letter and gave me the plastic screening envelopes and told me to hand them in at the scan.

I have just checked nhs app. Nothing on there and this trust doesn’t use pregnancy notes. It’s carrying round wads of paper!

Oh dear. Did they give you a list of numbers in the packet? Is there a sheet in there with contact details for your local hospital prenatal unit, etc? If so, I'd call the prenatal unit and explain the situation and that you're 11 weeks already and that you can't get in touch with your midwife and ask whether it's possible for them to book you in directly. Worth a shot.

You can have the 12w scan all the way up to 14 weeks, so you've still got a bit of time!

Great shout!!!

Yes there is a number for antenatal clinic 😅

Amazing! I will call them tomorrow and update. Thank you so much 🙏

Keep on at your midwife or antenatal department (this number should have been given to you on your booking appointment with the midwife). I was late having a scan as I didn’t chase up an earlier date, I should have been 13+3 but baby was measuring 3 days ahead. Baby wasn’t playing ball so they couldn’t get all the measurements they needed for the 3 syndromes testing and the deadline was 13+6 which I was now measuring.
I left there in tears panicking that I’d have to wait until the 16 week scan to check measurements again. At that point they were only able to check for downs and not the other 2 syndromes they check for at the 12 week scan. Luckily I was low risk.
It completely ruined my experience as I was beside myself for days after. It was an IVF pregnancy plus I was high risk due to age and had a previous miscarriage so my nerves were shot until the 16 week scan, even then I didn’t settle as I was unable to have full testing. Call them and demand an earlier appointment.
Good luck x

Hello @Preggers24 My dates weren't accurate due to my cycles still being messed up from a previous miscarriage and they put my due date a lot further ahead than I actually was.

I had several scans with EPU due to the previous multiple losses and one private scan for reassurance. During all three of those scans, I was measuring ahead of where they'd put my dates. When I got my dating scan letter through, it was obvious I'd be well over 14 weeks by the time I'd go to the appointment, so I called the ultrasound department. There was a number on the letter that said if you can't make the appointment to let them know asap, so that's the one I called. I explained I'd had multiple scans and was currently already measuring well over 11 weeks and that my dating scan wasn't booked for over three weeks away. The lady on the phone said they'd have to move it as I'd be too far along and did it there and then.

Is there a number for the ultrasound/clinic you're actually having the scan done at? Best of luck!
