12 week sonographer said 'she'

At our ultrasound the sonographer said 'she's moving around a lot' - now I'm wondering how likely is it that she saw the sex of the baby, or was it more likely just a slip of the tongue? Image attached in case anyone thinks it confirms/contradicts the 'she' comment!

There is no way of knowing at 12 weeks by looking as the sex organs don't form into male/female until 16/18(?) weeks

So it was just a turn of phrase

Some sonographers just say he/she as generic word they use for all scans. Doubt they could actually tell at 12 weeks

My sister had this at her scan too and was wondering the same thing, he turned out to be a boy! We think the sonographer was saying "she" out of respect... a bit like how you'd refer to a boat or something. It was a very odd choice of phrase though Confused Either way, congratulations! Smile

I’ve noticed some people are using “she” to replace word “ baby” unless baby is known to be a boy. So might be this.

Well we all start appearing female until male sex organs develop so they were technically correct at that gestation. Though I find skull theory quite accurate at 12 week scans. Rounded for girls, more square forehead for boys

i got that at my 12 week scan in first pregnancy she said “she” and it turned out it was a girl
this time they said she again but it’s a boy I think it’s just something they said or maybe because they were talking about my 1st daughter before

Once upon a time unborn babies were known as he for simplicity ( unless it was confirmed as a girl) its better than calling baby 'it' I guess
