PUPPP pregnancy rash

Doctor said this looks like a pregnancy rash called PUPPPs and probably won’t go away till I’ve had the baby 😩 (I’m 34 weeks). Has anyone ever had this before? Really worried it won’t go away or they’ll turn into stretch marks. I know that might sound vein of me but I’m really nervous about getting stretch marks😢 just wondered if anyone experienced this before? Also the rash isn’t raised and looks like it’s starting to turn purple?

I had PUPPS with my eldest, sending you lots of sympathy as it was so itchy. Contact your midwife, mine confirmed it was fine to take antihistamines for it and the GP prescribed some a steroid cream which combined just about took the edge off. The only other thing that helped was lots of showers that weren't too hot.

I didn't have stretch marks from it and it went so fast after I had my baby that I can't even remember it itching in the hospital. I was on for 48 hours after I gave birth (first time, emergency c section) and it had completely disappeared by the time I was discharged.

@FruitBadger thanks for the reply! It’s so strange as it doesn’t itch but when it first appeared it was hot to touch and kind was more prickly than itchy! Does it look like this would scar or turn into stretch marks? I know it’s so vain but I didn’t have any from my first pregnancy and I just feel rubbish in my body as it is so adding this to the mix is making me feel worse! Glad it went for you straight after delivery x

Mine looked just like that (although it did spread and become more angry, sorry 😪)

I do have really over stretched skin on my tummy still nearly 10 years later but I'm relatively slim and my babies were big, overdue, transverse and c sections! My rash was worst on my chest and upper arms, I really don't think the PUPPS did anything in that respect.

I had it from about 36 weeks and it was hell. So so itchy, I had it over the top of my arms and on my bump. Once I had the baby the itching stopped but the bumps remained for maybe a week. They did all disappear and you'd never know now but the itchiness was something else. I really feel for you. Thankfully I went into labour at 37 wks so didn't have it long.

Sorry for this and I really hope you don't have it for as long as I did. ( I just wanted you to have the information so you don't worry if it does get worse.. I'd never even heard of this and was sent into a panic.)
I had it for one week before and 7 weeks after my ds was born... during an 80deg heatwave...
It was awful and only lukewarm baths/showers helped..
I used steroid cream and I'm afraid it spread to over 80% of my body..
I was told I was pretty unlucky and I was sent to the medical imaging department and my photo made it into a medical journal!
I feel for you...

Thanks for all your messages. Mine isn’t itchy at all which is weird because everything I have read says it should be itchy! But the appearance is the exact same. Luckily I haven’t got it anywhere else - just my belly. I’m not fussed if the rash takes a while to go as it’ll be autumn/winter by time I have the baby so not like I’ll be getting my belly out haha. Just as long as it doesn’t scar and does eventually go🤞🏼 it’s more annoying than anything. I feel rubbish in my body this pregnancy as it is so this rash has just made me feel more insecure 😞

It doesn't scar don't worry, it's just a hormonal thing. I hope it doesn't get itchy because it's truly awful, it kept me up during the night.

I had it. Absolutely hideous. Not spotted by anyone until DD was a week old and I was sent immediately by the midwife to the GP for steroid cream.

it was in my stretch marks but I don’t think it caused any new ones. (I went past 42 weeks before DD was born.)

Yes, it does look like it. I had Piriton and betnovate for it. Mine was vv itchy and they eased the itch a bit. It cleared up by 2 or 3 weeks after the birth. I did end up with a few small stretch marks but I don’t know if that was due to the PUPPP or not. I didn’t get any stretch marks with 1st pregnancy though (not affected by PUPPP first time).
