Super anxious after 20 week scan - spoiling pregnancy

Hi all,

Sorry for the whinge, just need to get it out really. I had my anomaly scan at 21 weeks (1.5 weeks ago) where baby was measuring slightly large and I have slightly too much amniotic fluid.
I've since had gestational diabetes test (negative) and seen the midwife who reassured me and heard baby's strong heartbeat.
He's moving fine and as usual but I'm just so anxious now about him coming too early. Constantly checking to see if I could be leaking fluid and convinced every twinge could be something. I do have a history of anxiety but have been so chilled since pregnancy now every spot of discharge or twinge has me panicking and googling or running to check my pants.
I really want to enjoy my pregnancy. Does anyone have any tips?
I've got a growth scan on Wednesday where they'll check my cervix so hoping that calms me down.

I don’t really have any tips per se, but I didn’t want to read and run.

you have my every sympathy op. It’s so hard when a curveball comes into your pregnancy and you just think ‘can’t it just be a straight forward ride to birth?’

I had a MMC before my pregnancy with my DS in 2020 so I just couldn’t relax throughout the whole thing, never thought I’d get to the finish line but I did and you will too and I just know baby will be healthy. I can relate to what you said as I have anxiety (but didn’t realise it until I was pregnant with DS and did a post and all the posters were like “man you have so much anxiety” 🤣🤣) and I was constantly wiping to check for anything, all the time.

be kind to yourself, you are doing amazingly and you have got this mama. 💪🏻

as for tips, why not get a start on your baby shopping (even if just small things like reading books the baby might like, put them in an Amazon wish list), and the baby book? Positive things to focus on.

mumsnet is a helpful place as there will be others who have been in the same position who can reassure but also your maternity team will take such good care of you.

look after yourself lovely ❤️

Thanks so much for this and glad your LO is happy and healthy!
The books wishlist sounds like such a lovely idea - thank you!

I don’t know about the amniotic fluid. But measurements in utero are famously inaccurate- I would take anything you’re told with a pinch of salt. If the anxiety is affecting your daily life, speak to midwife about getting some support. I’m 33 weeks after a miscarriage last year and I never really expected to enjoy it-I’ve got to the point now where I’m coping ok and taking each day; but will be very happy when pregnancy is done. I don’t like the pressure in society to enjoy being pregnant, it can be tough physically and mentally for a lot of people. Maybe just focus on each day; do things you enjoy and keep busy-swimming and pregnancy yoga have helped me; and getting our house and garden sorted out.
