Inducing labour naturally

Hi,

I'm just curious did anyone try anything to induce labour naturally? If so when did you start trying it etc. I've seen so many people trying raspberry leaf tea and things like that and was just curious if any of those things actually worked for you if you tried them? Or what did work to bring your labour on naturally ☺️

I'm aware a lot of natural remedies to induce labour don't actually work for most women but like I said above I'm just curious as to what worked for yourself if you did induce labour naturally?

I don't think you could tell if something caused labour. How would you know it actually caused it, rather than it just starting at some point shortly after you ate/drank/did something?

I went for a walk after my evening meal then went to bed. Went into labour that night.

You can’t induce labour, it happens when it happens. You can however rest up, stay hydrated and do things that make you happy. Oxytocin starts labour so having it in your system is only a good thing

There’s nothing that’s really proven. I did read a research paper about women who ate dates to help but you have to start weeks before due date. I think staying active and upright can help!

With both daughters I drunk castor oil and orange juice mid afternoon ... one was late, the other I just felt it time. Both were born at 4.00am (eleven years apart)

Both no pain killers (shut up and go to sleep fairly close to the birth) and no stitches.

I think the only 2 that may help is nipple stimulation and sex. All the others are completely unproven.

And really, if anything worked at all surely no one would go overdue and all babies would be born at 37 weeks as soon as everyone starts trying all the things!

  1. of your body is not r rest NOTHInG will work even Medical induction. Your body needs to show signs +. Softening and effacment of cervix, dialation, contractions etc etc.

Raspberry leaf tea is not for inducing. It is to prep the uterus to have more efficient contractions.
Dates are to help soften the cervix only doesnt induce labour. The same with evening primrose.

If your body is ready and prepped then aoem things can work. I.e exercise, nipple stimulation / coloatrum harvesting, castor oil, flaxseed oil etc etc.
First time mothers chancea are reduced. But multiparous (more then 1 baby previously) the chances of these thinga working are increased BUT only if your body is ready.

You shouldn't try anything unless your talk to your provider. And your are past 39 weeks. E.g scientifically Caator oil has been shown to be effective from 40-42 weeks. It should not be used before that!.

For science backed information a YT channel called 'care about little ones" covers the subject of natural home inductions and remedies with science.
Castor oil has many studies to back it up.

Edited

I tries this Tuesday evening with the permission of my Midwife and nothing happened. Mild contractions. Bloody show..nothing else..no diarrhea, no vomiting. As peoplw like to scare us with. Normal bowel movements.

How much did you take?

Nipple stimulation is the only thing with evidence that it might bring on labour.

Antidotal only by physical activity. My mil went into labour with my partner at 37 weeks after jumping off a fallen tree and I went into labour at 38 weeks having helped move my office desk into the loft. I probably wouldn't advise doing either!

Also stubbornness, my mum was admitted for bed rest on the 17th Dec and was adamant that she wasn't going to be in hospital over Christmas and I arrived 2 weeks early the following day.

Mine were born at 41+6 and 41+5 ..... Nothing works :')

Jada2024 · 03/08/2024 21:02

I’m 41 weeks and so far nothing is working. midwives suggested raspberry leaf tea and hip circles and pelvic tilts on ball. I’ve been doing both. As I said nothing has worked for me yet but I was told that they are beneficial anyway to soften cervix, help uterus prepare and get baby to engage and prepare pelvis. So worth trying if you get the go ahead. I’ve been expressing colostrum as well for nipple stimulation.

I went to 42 and a half weeks and I still hate that fucking ball..did absolutely fuck all and I spent hours on it and hours walking. Still had to be induced!

ShillyShallySherbet · 03/08/2024 21:05

I’m afraid nothing worked for me, both mine were 10 days past my due date and believe me I was so uncomfortable I tried everything!

Thumberline · 03/08/2024 21:06

I had reflexology the day I went into labour both times. Once at 41 weeks and the other at 40 weeks. Both times I had already been told by the midwife I was 2/3 cm dilated im the days before so I guess the treatment/ relaxation just nudged things on.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 03/08/2024 21:07

I think sex is a maybe as sperm contains the prostaglandins they use in induction but honestly nothing. It may give you Braxton hicks, or irregular contractions but really it just makes you uncomfortable for longer 😅

You go when you go. Best remedy is to book something really nice and non-refundable. Sods law (or maybe happy relaxed hormones) you go into labour the day before. If not, you have a nice treat to commiserate.

MixedCouple2 · 04/08/2024 11:28

Sperm is insufficient as the amount needed to realse Prostoglandins would be copious - bucket loads.
But Oxytocin from intimacy is Proven to prep the body.
