Hi all
Hope you’re good!
I’m going to be a mummy for the first time and I want to get some good parenting books to read for the next few months. I know they probably all tell you different things but which ones did you find most helpful?
Im worrying about silly things like whether I’ll be able to tell if they need glasses (my partners eyesight is shocking), how I’d know if they have colic or tongue tie, what’s normal and what’s not etc. Like the basic stuff! 😅😅 I know there’s not a manual or anything but I’m starting to think about how little experience of babies me and my other half have (I’m not sure he’s actually held a tiny baby before!) and it’s making my head spin!

Any good reads would be most welcome!

Came here to say Emily Oster too!

I was also going to say Emily Oster “Cribsheets”. Actual research based book!

Thanks ladies! I’ve got the expecting better already and am enjoying it so definitely up for a post childbirth one of hers ☺️

I haven't read it yet but I've got the Modern Midwife's Guide to the First Year - her first book about pregnancy and birth was really good and accessible (and definitely worth a read for a first timer if you haven't already overloaded yourself with pregnancy books) so I'm expecting to find it useful when I get round to reading it.

Thank you! Never enough books! I’m a book worm and like having as much information as possible 😅 Thank you!

Expecting Better and Cribsheets (both Emily Oster) combined probably answered 95% of my parenting questions/worries in the first year - and the rest I found out through trial and error 😂

I've just finished reading this and found it useful. It is very easy to read with practical advice.

Thanks! I just realised I have the pregnancy one of hers that @CluelessInLondon mentioned and I’ve found it the best of all I’ve read about pregnancy. Not massive blocks of text and broken down easily. Will definitely get this second one!
