15yr old sister pregnant false positive ???

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice, my 15yo younger sister has come to me privately and understandably scared.

She has the implant in over a year but took a pregnant test 2 days ago, she took 2 tests. A clear blue digital and a normal clear blue. Clear blue digital came back pregnant 1-2 and the normal test was negative.

Obviously a lot of confusing here.

Has anyone seen a false positive clear blue digital before???

I'm going to buy her more tests this evening , but looking to know has anyone experienced this???

No I've never had a false positive on a digital test.

Get her a First Response test.

Drttc · 31/07/2024 17:20

I’ve heard that if there is an error, the test may come back positive (rather than say ‘error’). I’m not sure if this is the case, but it’s a reason given when a CB digital says ‘pregnant’ at the same time another test reads negative.

Or- the CB digital is accurate but may be more hcg sensitive (as low as 10 hcg?) than the test it is being compared too.

Grumblevision · 31/07/2024 17:31

I'd have a quick check online about whether HCG is detectable in the blood at this stage and get a GP appointment. Go with her obviously. She needs to know for her own peace of mind.

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 31/07/2024 18:00

I've normally had to wait 24 to 48 hours to get a positive on a clear blue after I got a positive on a stick test x

RagzRebooted · 31/07/2024 18:03

Was she having pregnancy symptoms that made her take the test? Implants are very effective, but not 100%, obviously.

LakelandDreams · 31/07/2024 18:05

Leaving aside the fact that she's been having sex without a condom since she was 14, she really needs to see a doctor to confirm for peace of mind.

LizzeyBenett · 31/07/2024 18:06

False positives are like unicorns (once the test is taken correctly)... if it's positive then she is most probably pregnant

suburberphobe · 31/07/2024 18:10

Just take her to the GP instead of faffing about with store-bought tests.

Time is of the essence.

thebluebeyond · 31/07/2024 18:24

False positives happen. Not saying this is what it is, but I've had false positives - through the GP

Mummy2mybear · 31/07/2024 18:27

I have never known a clear blue digital give false positive results. The blue dye ones yes not a clear blue digital 💐

vanana · 31/07/2024 18:28

False positives are rare. The test detected HCG. Therefore I’d say she’s pregnant.

GP surgeries always rely on store-bought tests.
They're much more sensitive than the useless ones the NHS gives out to medical centres.

OP if your sister's had a positive test, she's pregnant, so she needs to see the doctor about her next steps, assuming she wants an abortion.

changedusernameforthis1 · 31/07/2024 18:33

Yes - you need to check the miu of the tests. Last time DW got pregnant, her digital came back at pregnant 1-2 weeks but the normal clearblue was negative. Turns out the digital detects pregnancy at 10miu but the normal one was 25miu.

I'd take her to the GP so they can check her blood.

sadabouti · 31/07/2024 18:36

How old are you OP? Is the relationship with your parents stable? If you are under 18, it is reasonable to seek help from an adult. If not a parent, a teacher, or to speak with social services. They will want to help you and your sister.

GPs don't do blood pregnancy tests like that. They have the same cheap pee on a stick line ones you buy over the counter. When I worked in one we wouldn't even test people that had self tested, just gave them the phone number for midwife booking or termination referral. The only few we did were pee on a stick for abdo pain type presentations. Blood tests are done in hospital when suspecting ectopics etc

Well now I feel old - they happily checked mine with DS.....almost 14 years ago 😅

CeCeDrake · 31/07/2024 19:30

I had a false positive one time … which was told to me while I was lying in an operating theatre awaiting surgery... it was pretty intense and very unexpected explaining my really extreme reaction to being told the news … a nurse proceeded to tell me that either I was pregnant or about to have a miscarriage which then made me feel awful about my reaction .. however, two hours later a blood test revealed I wasn’t pregnant nor had I been! The only time I have felt like a unicorn!!

OrangeSlices998 · 31/07/2024 19:35

Recheck with a first response with first morning urine. GP unlikely to do bloods, it’s not standard to confirm pregnancy at the doctors a home test will suffice.

LakelandDreams · 31/07/2024 19:47

Please see the GP. This is a 15 year old and whoever is sleeping with her is commiting a criminal offence, as is she. It's a safeguarding issue and she's exposing herself to STDs if using only the implant. Do the other posters on here not realise she's a child? You are all replying as though it's an adult.

SweetBabe · 31/07/2024 19:52

Get a pink dye test, OP

I think we absolutely do realise that she is a child, but she managed to get the implant, so her GP must know that she's sexually active.

ByPeachKoala · 01/08/2024 09:52

I would also go straight to the dr…the implant is meant to be over 99% effective if replaced every three years so at the very least if it’s not worked for her she needs GP advice on contraception and doubling up with a condom!

Sinderalla · 01/08/2024 17:39

What was the reason she bought the tests in the first place?
Was there a slip up? In which case is probably accurate
