Encouraging breech baby to turn

At my last midwife appointment and at an appointment today with a consultant Ive been told baby is still breech, I'm only almost 35 weeks so they aren't too concerned as there's still time for him to turn (pretty sure my others weren't head down til around 37 weeks either) but the consultant kept talking about how we 'need a plan' and about having him turned manually or a C-section (both things I'd rather avoid). When I asked her if there's anything I can do at home to encourage him to turn, she said nothing works, either babies turn or they don't Confused
Anyway, I'm just looking for any recommendations of how people got their breech babies to turn by themselves (whether the consultant believes it can help or not).

Search “spinning babies” OP! I was in the same boat, my baby was breech all the way through until literally 39 weeks, I had been booked in for an ECV to turn her and when they scanned me before the procedure she had turned head down!

Not sure whether that was just luck or whether everything I did was helping but I did just about every video on spinning babies 3/4 times a day🤣

Another vote for looking at the ‘spinning babies’ site

Try the old fashioned way. Grab a scrubbing brush and a bucket of hot, soapy water, get down on your hands and knees and scrub the kitchen floor.

It worked for me to turn DS1, though I can't remember how many weeks I was, 33 or 34 maybe.

It didn't happen immediately but he flipped over when I was in bed that night. A very odd sensation it was, too. Made me feel very queasy for a bit. He came out head first at 39 weeks.

Do you have a birthing/yoga ball? Sit on it and bounce at every opportunity, I used to bounce on mine watching the TV in the evenings. Also lots of walking can get baby moving.

Spinning babies also.an amazong YT channel called care about little ones who use sxience to offer advice on how to turn breach babies. Amazing content.
All the best. Dra are wonderful humans...... Not.

Mine flipped 2 weeks ago after using the ball at the gym. I did some movements to the front, some movements to the side and some orbital hip rotations and as soon as I got up he turned around!

I did basically steps 2.,3.,4.,5 like in this video

Before you continue to YouTube

Try swimming on your front, and diving down to do a handstand on bottom of pool! And lots of good yoga sequences on YouTube. Basically want to get your abdomen upside down as much as you can

I had a breech baby in 2021, declined the ECV, went ahead with a c section planned for 39 weeks.

I would try moxibustion, my acupuncturist has said she's gotten breech babies to turn successfully. I haven't tried it though so can't comment personally x

PoopedAndScooped · 30/07/2024 22:21

I would not recommend them physically turning your baby
They have surgery on stand by because things can go very wrong

SantasRubiksCube · 30/07/2024 22:23

Thanks everyone, I'm going to try some of these suggestions starting tomorrow. Ive had a look at some of the videos about turning breech babies and don't like the look of being upside down due to suffering horrendous heartburn alot but I'll try what I can 😅

My current 16week old was breech until 39+2 and she was born at 39+3. Nothing like cutting it fine 😅

I declined ECV and booked an elective CS but as she turned herself, i went with a vaginal delivery in the end. I didnt do anything special to try and make her turn but I had spent a lot of time on my hands and knees with my toddler in the days before, which ive since heard can help.

When she was born, the midwife said she had an unusually long cord - weirdly for quite a few weeks, every evening i was really feeling her push hard and i now think that she was trying to turn but the cord was somehow preventing her from doing so. In any case, lucky she turned when she did as i developed preeclampsia on the day she turned so clearly she recognised it was time to vacate!

I went to a chiropractor for the Weber method, which involved manipulating the mother not the baby. I think it's about opening up space. My baby moved a couple of nights later. I was woken in the middle of the night and had to get on all fours as she was turning at 38+4 and there wasn't much space left! You have to check the chiropractor knows the Weber method/has done it before

I did nothing special in particular as I was more than happy to attempt the ECV.

But one thing that sticks out in my mind was that the evening I believe he turned I ate Subway. The sandwich itself was fine, but I also ordered some Doritos encrusted snack to go with it and triggered some hefty movements. I don't know if that was him turning as huge movements were the norm for him (my poor lower right ribs), but either way he was cephalic the following morning.

The Doritos flavoured side (might have been mozzarella bites) were pretty vile. A 2/10, and that's generous. But if they was the cause of my baby turning, then they were worth every penny, and 10/10 would eat in the event of a breech baby again.
