As a first time mom, please can I get some advise on which baby clothes to buy for a January due date, and how many of each items I am likely to need?
Can newborn's spend all day in sleepsuits for example (obvs changing when dirty) or should they be in body suits with leggings and cardigans to keep warm?

Hi! What's the usual temp in your home in winter,

I had a January baby, live in a new build so nice and warm and holds the heat. We had them in short sleeve vest and baby grow during the day and long sleeve vest and 2.5tog sleeping bag at night.

You can put them in little outfits but just make sure short sleeve vest under the outfit. You will probs find however you will have them in bath grows round the home as soooo much easier!

I had mine in a vest, a babygro and added cardigans etc as necessary, although she was 6 months by then. We plan to do similar this time, our house is around 18 with the heating on usually

I think for a winter baby you want a vest then a sleepsuit then perhaps a cardigan but it depends how warm your house is and whether they are bundled in blankets as well.

Sleepsuits are fine. Outfits too.
Depends what you like. Baby won't mind.

Do you have your own washer? It means (or did for me) less clothes needed.

I bought 2 big bag of second hand baby clothes. Nice brands and very lttle used as babies grow fast.
All I wished for and needed for the first year for £50. Of course I bought new clothes as well but I picked out the nice pieces at the shops for fun.

We found Asda first size the best for newborn. It's 6-9lb and was a little big on my 6lb13 daughter but ok. She would have outgrown tiny baby quick quickly as most only go up to 7lb.
We had 5-7 short sleeved vest 6 baby grows in first size and 0-3 months. When she arrived we then bought the same again in first size and some long sleeved vests. If she had been a bit smaller we probably would have bought the same again but in tiny baby from somewhere that did tiny baby up to 7lb. It's so easy to get extras I wouldn't get too much in advance. One of my friends had a perfectly average weight baby but with long legs and big feet and was in 0-3 months after two weeks
She was August but in her first winter we had 1 multipack short sleeved, I multipack long sleeved and 6 sleepsuits. We had some leggings and t-shirts too. I hate sleepsuits with a passion and am expecting number 2 and will probably do more leggings and t shirts this time and PJ's overnight

My second was born last week of January. We live in a period property so cold and draughty. At night, she wore a capped sleeve vest and an all in one sleep suit along with a 2.5 tog grow bag.

Daytime was the same but without the grow bag.

Hi! What's the usual temp in your home in winter,

We tend to keep it around 21/22. It's not too much of an old house so retains the heat well.

Vests and babygros mainly - just layer up and down as you need to.
A good snowsuit for when you go outside.
I wouldn't spend a lot of outfits at the beginning as you'll probably end up receiving these as newborn gifts. Maybe some cardigans for over the top though
