How many nappies and what sizes are you all stocking up with?
Im not really sure where to start with brands or if I should bother with size 0/1 nappies.
Would love to hear what others are doing please 🙂

Currently got a 7 week old, still using size 1 and have done whole time, she was 7lb11 at birth. Have tried lots and prefer Asda / Tesco over several others. Pampers were good too but actually find Asda / Tesco easiest to put on! You go through them surprisingly quickly so 4/5 big packets to start off would be ideal if you have the space to store!

You will need loads of newborn nappies. Newborns poo all the time, everywhere. You’ll get through loads a day. Try different brands to see what fits your baby best but personally I found Aldi the best value and they didn’t leak.

BurbageBrook · 29/07/2024 07:39

Aldi nappies have been fine for us. Our baby was really big and wasn't in newborn nappies for that long so if you're expecting a large baby I would advise buying just one big pack of newborns then send DP/DH out for more after baby is here. If not, it's fine to stock up!

Boater · 29/07/2024 07:42

Don’t stock up too much. Not all nappies suit all babies so you’re better off saving money until you know what works.

Mumoftwo1316 · 29/07/2024 07:46

You'll need at least ten a day to begin with. My babies went through more like 15 a day in their first week.

So I'd have at least a pack of 30 at home because you don't want to have to rush out on day 2.

mrsed1987 · 29/07/2024 07:53

My son was in size 3 by about 8 weeks and he isnt particularly big was born 7lb 4oz. We got a pack of size 2 and they didn't fit very well so moved him straight up to 3.

I personally wouldn't buy loads as some don't suit some baby's for example, lidl nappies don't fit my son very well, I find aldi doesn't absorb well and sainsbury's were far to tight even in the right size.

With my first my parent got loads and I ended up giving brand new packs away because they had been outgrown.

CheeseWisely · 29/07/2024 09:50

We never used size 0, our boy was 6lb 7oz at birth. He's 8 weeks now and we've been in size 2 for about two weeks but he's a chunk! I've bought in a pack of size 3 already as I expect him to move up at any time.

I'd say a 50 pack was lasting 3-4 days to start with, a bit longer now.

I don't know if every branch would but our lovely small local branch of Boots let us exchange two unopened size 1 packs for size 2.

Bax765 · 29/07/2024 10:03

We're still in size 1 pampers with our 8 week old. You can get them next-day on Amazon, so don't really need to stock up!

PermanentlyTired03 · 29/07/2024 15:27

We used Aldi premium, I’d buy a small amount at first as if your baby doesn’t get on with the brand you are then stuck with loads of nappies! Pampers pure gave my newborn a horrible rash- luckily I only had one pack!

Thanks to everyone for your advice 🙏🏻

Have you considered using cloth? A bit of an initial outlay but then you are done ! No poo explosions to deal with and earlier potty training as an added bonus.

Pinksoda08 · 31/07/2024 02:44

My baby was 5lb 12oz at birth - I started off with size 1 Aldi nappies. Also tried Lidl, Ocado, Asda, Pampers Harmonie and Rascal and Friends! Rascal and Friends is my favourite and I'm currently using them at 7 months as they're great at absorbing and they fit very well. Ocado was my least favourite!

Asda nappies are also quite good and seem comfortable.

Aldi nappies are very budget friendly and great to start off with.

I agree with others - don't buy too much. You may want to buy small packs of two or three brands and see what works best for you? I also got some free nappies (Lidl and pampers) with my Emma bags!

nanoghost · 31/07/2024 03:14

I would really recommend getting at least a couple packs of size 0. We only got size 1s and they were huge on my DD who was 6ibs 4. We were then in size 0 for at least a few weeks before moving onto size 1.

Not every nappy suits every baby but we were very lucky that pampers suited her and we've been using them ever since. Just sized up to 3 at 17 weeks.

Itsjustmeheretoday · 31/07/2024 03:18

Don't stock up on too much, and get a few different brands. I had too many and my newborn (who was tiny) outgrew them, total waste of money

WithOneLook · 31/07/2024 03:46

Nappies aren't something you really need to stock up on until you know which brand works best for your little one. Google free nappies, Lidl, Emma's diary (pampers) and bounty (Tesco) all had a free pack in which is plenty to start with. Most babies start off in size 1. My daughter was 6lb 3oz and needed the size 0 for several weeks but the hospital were adept at folding the 1s over to make them fit until someone could pick up a pack of 0 and bring up to us. Also, don't assume that your baby will fly through the sizes. I'm actually quite surprised at some of the sizes some previous posters are using. My daughter is 2 and still in size 4!

SarahB88 · 31/07/2024 03:54

All babies are different shapes so what works for one won’t work for another. My 10 week old is in size 2 but my friends is in size 3 and they are roughly the same weight, my baby is very long and thin.

We bought 2 packets of Aldi newborn size 1 and ended up buying quite a lot more once we knew this size worked for us. Tesco and Asda were also great. Moved in to size 2 around 8 or 9 weeks I think it was, not been in them long anyway and I think she could be in them a while more.

If you’re expecting a very small baby make sure you have some tiny size 0s but if you’re expecting a big baby I wouldn’t buy too many size 1s. Dad or someone else can always pop to the shops if you need more or a different size.

nanoghost · 04/08/2024 03:40

The best advice I have is to get at least a couple packs of size 0. My baby was 6ibs 4 and we found that size 1 were just comically oversized and had to be folded all sorts of ways to fit. Size 0 was much better for the first few weeks before we moved up to size 1.

OnNaturesCourse · 04/08/2024 09:51

On my 4th baby here.

I always use Aldi nappies. My 3 year old is still using them so I'll be using them again with this one.

From earlish on I just start buying a pack or two with my weekly shop. Usually a few newborn size, then some size 1s or 2s, before really stocking up on 3s and 4s etc.

You might find you need to buy a extra packet or two of the smaller sizes once baby is here but that's better than having too many you'll not use. Babies grow quick and their shape changes lots in the early days. You're pretty certain to need the bigger sizes for longer.

Animalfair · 04/08/2024 10:10

Unless you’re expecting a tiny baby I don’t think you need size 0, they are expensive as not many brands do them. My son was 5lb and we did need them for a while. My best advice is to get size 1 nappies from all the supermarkets you have near you so you can try each brand as different brands are better for different babies. For example some people rave about Aldi nappies but I find them not absorbent enough as my baby is still small but wasn’t premature so does big wees! We like Tesco and Asda best, don’t mind Lidl and hate Sainsbury’s.
