Hiya hoping I can reach out to a few people here, I am 33 weeks pregnant however at 32 & 4 we had a growth scan, as I have an underactive thyroid. Baby has been diagnosed with ventriculomegaly where the one side of the brain is over the 10mm range. It is 11.3mm so is just over, just wondering if anyone has experienced this with their baby, and if so what did you do, how did you get on etc.
I've got a MRI scan Wednesday which will hopefully reveal more but as you can imagine am in some sort of worry.

Thanks in advance

My DD had ventriculomegaly during my pregnancy found during week 28, you may take some comfort in hers was a lot higher around 17/19 in 2 ventricles. We found out later that the dilated extra fluid in the brains ventricles was blood and she had had a stroke (I had contracted swine flu during pregnancy, which had made her have a stroke and hypoxia, a lack of oxygen to her brain).

She is severely disabled physically, but very clever and funny and beautiful and really is our world. We're not too sure of how long we have left with her, she is in intestine failure now and at some point will move to palliative care.

I didn't want to carry on with the pregnancy at the point we found out, we had a MRI while I was pregnant with her at 32 weeks. We were told the dilated ventricles was not enough to 'qualify' for a late termination.
I do remember how worried I was and didn't know anyone going through the same, couldn't enjoy the rest of my pregnancy.

She is our 3rd born and was our last and if it gives you any comfort I'm glad we have her in our life, she really is a miracle she's been here for so long and she is the glue to our family.

We were told that she would either pass away during birth, or be disabled, or be fine. Even after the MRI, they were always the 3 options and no doctors could tell us what they predicted.

Hello lovely 🩷
I've had this happen in both of my pregnancies. The first, with my son, at 27 weeks his vents were enlarged up to around 20mm. All the testing we had sadly revealed further, serious issues, and so we did choose to end the pregnancy to prevent him from a lifetime of pain 💔
In my rainbow pregnancy with our daughter there was a point (I think around 25/26 weeks) where her ventricles had increased to just slightly over 10mm. Because of the history with our son we were rescanned a couple of weeks later and they'd reduced to 7mm :)
I just want to make you aware that what happened with our daughter is much more common that with our son! It's quite common for the baby's ventricle sizes to change throughout pregnancy, even thing like if you've been a bit unwell could alter them, but they more often than not go back under 10mm.
Your baby's measurements are so close to the 10mm mark that it could also be that baby was lied in a position that meant an inaccurate measurement was taken, we were told by our doctor it's quite hard to get an accurate measurement when you think how tiny a mm is.
I'd recommend joining the ventriculomegaly Facebook group if you haven't already, there are so many really positive stories on there.
Sending you a huge hug, I hope everything works out okay xx

If it’s any help, my boy was diagnosed with this at 20 week scan. It was a horrible time and quite a panic. We are now a year old and discharged today by the paediatrics. It was also 11 like yours. He’s developed really well and there isn’t an issue, just a large head! Lots of conflicting advice and research out there which didn’t help. I’m sure you’ll be absolutely fine x
