It is truly awful.
I’m also pregnant with my 3rd baby, I had it bad with my first, not so bad with my second and it’s hit me really hard again this time around.
This pregnancy is the first where I’ve been able to see a physio as with previous pregnancies a didn’t get a referral made in time to see one before I had the baby! But I’ll be honest they weren’t very much help. This was through the NHS so I’m not sure if going privately might be different. All of the information they gave me was what I’d already looked up myself.

Unfortunately, as the physio informed me, there is no magical cure. I’ve found the best way of managing it is to reduce my activity levels. I was trying to keep up walking a lot and doing things like gardening and gritting my teeth through the pain as I thought it more important to get exercise. I’m actually taking things a lot easier now and it’s more manageable. I’ve been signed off work and my GP had no qualms about doing so once I explained how much PGP was affecting my life. I find that whatever activity I do, I pay for it that night/the next day. So even when you’re having a “good” day pain wise, don’t overdo it as I’ve learnt you’ll only suffer more later on.

mrssunshinexxx · 26/07/2024 07:08

@Bigowleyes sorry you're suffering too.
I have been to physio and waiting for consultant app to be brought forward to discuss moving my section forward I cannot do another 3 months of this pain.
Night times are the worse but lack of sleep obviously affects my mood in the day.
I was given crutches but can't use them when I'm pushing the pram. So difficult just having a rant really feel free to ignore x

Yes, I find the pain feels so much more intense when I’m not well rested too and because it disrupts sleep so much it’s a viscous cycle.

I don’t want to dishearten you but I believe consultants are unlikely to move a planned c-section date because of PGP. I work in maternity and I’ve never known a c-section be arranged for earlier than 39 unless there’s a medical reason affecting yours or the baby’s health. They absolutely wouldn’t do before 37 weeks.

darkmode1 · 26/07/2024 07:57

It’s awful isn’t it, and the NHS physios will refuse to do manual therapy. The only strategy I’ve found to manage it is to walk as little as possible in the day. Can you get signed off from work?

mrssunshinexxx · 26/07/2024 09:04

@darkmode1 I'm a sahm but the thought of doing my old office job would be much easier than looking after. A 2 and 4 year old full time!
@Bigowleyes I am prepared for them to say no but if you don't ask you don't get and surely if it's impacting on my ability to care for my children that needs to be taken into consideration. Even 38 weeks I'd be happy with a week less of this agony and section agony instead yay for being a woman

I do completely sympathise! I’m really struggling looking after my children, I understand how hard it is.
Do you have a medical need for elective c section before 39 weeks? Unfortunately, your ability to care for your other children won’t be seen as reason to section earlier in the eyes of an obstetrician.

mrssunshinexxx · 26/07/2024 09:44

No medical reason other than they really don't want me having a vbac so could pretend I'm going into labour 😂

I had some osteopathy which made a huge difference. Might be worth a try. I couldn't walk but after the osteopathy I could.

Overtired345 · 27/07/2024 03:22

You say you have another 3 months to go. My pgp was at its worst at 26-32 weeks. It got better as I got bigger and a lot less active. It's really not great for baby to come before 39 weeks as they can have breathing issues. As desperate as you are now ( and I have been there!!!), you'd rather a healthy baby.

To put it in context, at about 26 weeks I went for a walk, I told DH I wanted some exercise. I was actually actively looking to throw myself in front of a car, it's how bad pgp sent me mentally. My plans were fortunately scuppered by DH who decided to come with me and delayed our walk and it wasn't rush hour anymore and none of the cars coming were going fast enough. That's how dark it got for me.

Trust me, you'll get better and you'll feel better one day. You really will.

Kosenrufugirl · 27/07/2024 03:27

The only thing that worked for me was going swimming for 1 hour at a time 5 days a week. Nothing else worked. I am not convinced your section would be moved forward by 1 week. Babies born by a Caesarean before 39 weeks are much more likely to end being admitted to the neonatal care unit with breathing difficulties

Izzy24 · 27/07/2024 03:27

Cranial osteopathy definitely worth a try.

mrssunshinexxx · 27/07/2024 06:39

Thanks everyone

@Kosenrufugirl I've been told a hard no to swimming due to the leg movements in any strokes being open and that's the issue at the pelvis / hip. Glad it worked for you though the thought of doing breast stroke legs makes me wince just sat here

@Overtired345 gosh that sounds bleak I'm sorry you were in such a dark place.
I'm mainly struggling with mum guilt and just feeling sluggish and lazy too I'm usually very active person I've just got a reformer Pilates bench in our gym at home and can't pissing use it I'm gutted as I'm obsessed with it I wanted to stay mega fit this time as really suffered with diastis recti last time but hey ho!
@Geneticsbunny @Izzy24 I'll research this thanks hadn't thought of this and midwife or physio hadn't recommended it.

I know there's risks prior to 39 weeks so will have to see what they say maybe they'd give me the steroids for his lungs otherwise I'll have to suck it up of course

I go swimming OP, but don’t actually swim. I spend an hour in the local swimming baths a few times a week and just float/plod about, it really helps to take the weight off for a short time. My physio also said no to breaststroke but said other strokes might work and that actually just being in water for a time will help with giving your hips a break from weight bearing. I used to lie back on a couple of pool noodles.

I mean this in the nicest way possible, I think it would do you well to drop the idea of having baby early. They won’t give you steroids to deliver your baby sooner than planned because you have PGP, that just won’t happen. I’d instead focus energy on trying out some of the recommendations given her, I’m going to look into an osteopath for myself too. Sending love, it’s bloomin’ miserable to be in pain all the time isn’t it!

mrssunshinexxx · 27/07/2024 07:31

@Bigowleyes thanks , I have messaged to osteopaths this morning so will see what comes of that. I went 'swimming ' yesterday but just following my 2 kids around so they don't drown mainly but it does feel nice to be weightless sadly don't have the time to factor that in alone
