New Midwife??

Hi,

I don't know if it's just me but my midwife doesn't seem to care all that much. Every time we've had an interaction she either ignores my message or deflects to my GP.

Most recent example, I went to ED yesterday because of high temperatures and cramping, doctor told me I have UTI and I should also get my midwife to swab for BV. I tell her and she passes me to my GP who will no doubt pass me back to her. Maybe I'm being dramatic but it just feels like no one wants the responsibility of care.

Has anyone ever requested a new midwife and how??

Not sure where you are OP but in the UK that’s pretty normal. It is your GP who would do the BV swab and anything for UTI, midwife is only for things strictly pregnancy related if that make sense?

It's in the UK, it's my first pregnancy so I don't know a lot. The doctor at the hospital said my midwife should do, because no one will want to swab me due to risk to the baby, hence my confusion. Thank you.

I’m inclined to say that doctor was wrong. It would be your GP or even a sexual health clinic who swab for BV for the simply fact that if you do have it, it’s only those people who could then prescribe you the antibiotics. There’s no risk at all to baby from doing a swab so if the doctor has genuinely said that then honestly I’d report it, that is completely and utterly incorrect and worrying to think a doctor in a hospital would say or suggest that. The swab is literally just inside your vagina, it goes nowhere near your cervix nevermind near your baby. Just contact your GP to book in x

It’s the GP not the midwife should be doing this….it’s not her remit

Sorry your gp is in the wrong here, not the midwife. With any health issues my midwife would suggest I contact my gp and only really got Involved if I couldn’t get an appointment.
