Over active thyroid

Hi. Does anyone know how bad a TSH level of 0.23 is when pregnant. I had some blood tests done by my doctor and he said I have a slightly over active thyroid and to do more tests in 4 to 6 weeks. He didn't really answer my questions and asked me to talk to my midwife but I don't have one yet as only 6 weeks. I don't know if I need to push getting medicine or not.

I had a tsh of 0.34 in first trimester, for pregnancy it can go as low as 0.1 and be ok and down to hcg hormone suppression of the thyroid. Are you on thyroid medication?

@T2024 thank you. I'm not on medication. Only just found about it now and the doctor hasn't advised medication but he didn't really say anything particularly reassuring.

Have you had previous thyroid tests recently to see if there's a trend?

My GP had said not really to trust an individual result, rather go on a trend as when I had that 0.34 result, about 2 weeks later it was back upto 0.8 or 0.9. Lots of things can affect tsh daily and it may just be that your hcg is rising rapidly and affecting tsh level.

I would try not to worry too much yet, I know it's hard though - have thyroid issues myself. TSH can go as low as 0.1ish in pregnancy as screenshot above shows x

@T2024 unfortunately not - the last one was 2022 and all was fine. I'm having more tests towards the end of August so I guess that will help to show what's happening. Thank you so much for letting me know about your experience. It helps x

Not a problem lovely, make sure to ask to be referred asap to the maternity endocrinologist for your care, they will know far more and manage any changes x
