Episiotomy scar

I'm 14 weeks pregnant with my 2nd and from around 10 weeks my episiotomy scar has been feeling quite uncomfortable. I notice it mainly when I go to the toilet, can be no. 1 or 2 I think it's just the pressure on my pelvic floor from that position. Has anyone else experienced this? It's making me nervous for when baby gets bigger. If it's relevant I had a really bad birth first time and my scar took about 9 months to heal and 2 years to stop hurting day to day

Hey, I'm 23 weeks with my 2nd and also have an episiotomy scar from 1st, and had a 3rd degree tear.

I've been trying to massage the scar with almond oil which I had left over from when it was first healing and I didn't want it to get all tight and sore. I do something similar to a perineal massage technique and am hoping that will reduce my chances of another tear this time around. Want to make sure I do it early as I found it really difficult to reach and do anything effectively down there once I got past 35 weeks!

Scar massage really helped me after my tear. I ended up at a pelvic floor physio who showed me how it was amazing

Thanks so much ladies. I'll look into massaging it. Hopefully that will help things

Hi OP. I had an episiotomy due to forceps delivery but no tearing etc and have been lucky I've had no issues with it. I did ask my midwife about giving birth after an episiotomy and she did say that if I was to tear, it would be more likely to reopen the episiotomy as its now a 'weak spot' if that makes sense. However she was very reassuring that now everything has 'stretched' from first labour, I could give birth vaginally with no need for forceps this time.

I had an episiotomy and then 3rd degree tear with my first. I was convinced it would split open again with the second birth but it was fine. Small tear in a slightly different location but nothing as bad. I did get terrible varicose veins down there though second time around.

Thank you so much!! One of my biggest fears is the episiotomy reopening. Positive to know you can go on to have vaginal births without it reopening. I think perineal massage will be key. I might start early seeing as it's a sore spot anyways

others have covered the episiotomy side of things but I did just want to say, your uterus/plus baby will soon be rising out of your pelvis and I found that this eased quite a bit of pressure after about 18 weeks. With my current pregnancy I started experiencing PGP at about 16 weeks which horrified me as it hadn't bothered me with first to-term pregnancy until well into the 3rd trimester, but since then it's actually got a lot better rather than worse. So do take heart, it's not necessarily a downward trajectory from hereon in.

Thank you ☺️ really appreciate everyone's words of encouragement
