I remember just drinking enough so my bladder was full, but not so i was in agony or anything!

CheeryBiscuit · 20/07/2024 06:41

About half a litre -1 litre an hour before the scan :)

Newmumtobe2025 · 20/07/2024 07:40

I was called in early for my first scan and had just emptied my bladder and I said to the nurse I am 20 mins early. She said don’t worry we will see how we go!
got in the and my baby was clear as day, I can still picture everything in my mind now, my picture was excellent. One of the best days of my life so far!
20 week scan coming up soon, which is the one where they can advise gender, (I’m not finding out) but I wouldn’t think this is a any different than the first?

I guess everyone one is different hence she said we will see how we get on x

CluelessInLondon · 20/07/2024 09:04

What advice were you given by the scan clinic? They should tell you if you need to attend with a full bladder - if you do, about a pint of water an hour before would do it. You might not need a full bladder though - you don't for the 20 week scan.

Gofastboatsmojito · 20/07/2024 09:58

It is a SEX scan
No-one can tell what internal feelings your child may or may not have.

The scan is to determine whether the child is XX or XY and therefore whether they are male or female.

That is all

In your opinion. But that doesn't make it right. A 'feeling' doesn't change your gender.

500-750 mls one hour before the appointment x

Poster is right. "Sex" is a biological term determing male or female. Gender is about how a person defines themselves. I was born female and I define myself as a woman. I know someone who was born female and defines themselves as a man. Another I know born male but defines themselves as non binary as they don't feel like a man or a woman.

@Gofastboatsmojito What on earth has this got to do with how much water to drink for the scan. 😂😂😂Surely there are more relevant posts regarding your topic of conversation.

well no, if this is actually the hill you want to die on, the scan tells you if it looks like the baby has a vulva or a penis. It does not diagnose their chromosomes. But the OP was asking about how much she needed to drink before a scan. HTH.

Fair point, but I'll counter by saying the point of the scan is to confirm whether the child is male or female, not to spot 'a penis' or 'a vulva'. It is spotting of genitals which leads a Dr to conclude whether they are male or female, and the vast majority of the time they are correct because the two usually correlate. On the rare occasions they don't this is nornally spotted later, unless the test is eg NIPT

OP thought it might be worth your understanding the difference between the words because things have got confused these days but your child your choice.

"Who does everyone think is going to win the footy Euroids"

"Actually they're called the Euros, and specifically its the men's Euros because the women's Euros is next year" is a valid reply, and i think mine is too

Words matter. If they didn't then the law would fall to pieces pretty quickly, dictionaries wouldn't exist, and Countdown might never have taken off.

annlee3817 · 21/07/2024 09:27

I never had to drink water for scans apart from the 12 week one and I had loads.

readyforroundthree · 21/07/2024 10:53

@Gofastboatsmojito although your original comment is correct I have noticed that all of the private scan clinics advertise this particular scan as a 'gender scan' which is probably why a lot of people call them that.

tuttuttutt · 21/07/2024 10:56

I didn't need a full bladder.

MigGirl · 21/07/2024 11:01

I'd go with the 500ml option an hour before hand. Our clinc is always late and sitting in the waiting room with a very full bladder knowing you can't pee but not knowing how long you are going to have to wait is always he'll.

Edingril · 21/07/2024 11:06

I did whatever they told me to do

@Gofastboatsmojito 😂😂 So irrelevant, you say in another post the OP needs to understand words, I think you need to understand the question here;
I ask again what has your response got to do with how much water to drink at a scan…. Nothing.

No one asked for an opinion or a lesson on the understanding of words. The hospitals call this scan a Gender Scan. If this upsets you and you do not like it then fine the appropriate persons to discuss this with. Instead of jumping on a mumsnet post when someone is asking how much water to drink at a Gendrer Scan 😂😂😂
