Pregnancy Bump

Hey, this is my first pregnancy and I’m currently 14 and a half weeks pregnant. I know everyone’s bodies are different but I’m starting to panic that I don’t have a bump. For context I’m a size 8 but a lot of my friends started to show around 12 weeks. I’d love to hear when people started showing in their first pregnancy and advice to an overthinker over here. I also know it’s too early to feel any movements but I hope it happens soon for some reassurance! Thanks ladies 😊

The foetus is tiny, you can't expect to have a bump! Your friends were probably just bloated. I'm first pregnancy and only really showed from about 24 weeks.

WickWood · 16/07/2024 15:11

I'm pregnant with my first and agree that it's normal to not show until around 20odd weeks.

I also didn't feel anything until around 21 weeks!

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 16/07/2024 15:14

I started to feel movements at around 17-18 weeks both times (which is quite early, I had posterior placentas) and didn't really start to have a proper bump until well over 20 weeks.

malimoon · 16/07/2024 15:35

I got a teeny bump around 16 weeks but it wasn't very noticeable until 20-something weeks for sure. And I didn't feel clear movement until 21 weeks, so don't panic if that takes a while too! (It is nice and reassuring when both things happen, so I understand how you're feeling, but you are definitely at a normal point for where you're at.)

Strokethefurrywall · 16/07/2024 15:38

Didn't have a noticeable bump until 25 weeks.

CluelessInLondon · 16/07/2024 17:20

12 weeks is very early to have a bump - the only people I've ever known to show so early are people who are on their second pregnancy or later. I didn't really start to develop a bump until around 17-18 weeks and even then nobody could really see it - it was only visible if you saw me in my underwear and knew what I looked like before! My bump really 'popped' around 27 weeks - I went away on holiday and came home looking a lot more pregnant than I was when I left!

Just to add, you are in a really weird spell of pregnancy right now and I went through something similar to you - I was googling pregnancy bumps each week to see if other people looked the same as me at that stage! It is a strange time because you probably don't feel as pregnant as you did a few weeks ago, but you also don't actually look pregnant yet and aren't getting the experience of having a little bump and feeling baby move around. My advice is to try and relax and enjoy this stage of your pregnancy - being able to fit into your normal clothes is something you will miss in a few weeks' time!

SunshineHope92 · 17/07/2024 17:39

@CluelessInLondon thank you so much for your message, that’s really reassuring. You’ve really hit the nail on the head with how I feel and you’re right I need to try and relax and enjoy this stage. Glad to know I’m not alone with how I’m feeling 😊

@malimoon thanks so much for your message. It must be lovely to finally feel the movement! 😁

12 weeks is very early to have a bump - the only people I've ever known to show so early are people who are on their second pregnancy or later.

My bump (first child) was very pronounced at 12 weeks and was impossible to hide or disguise!

Catopia · 18/07/2024 07:00

It depends a lot on your body and on how baby is positioning itself. My friend and I are both size 6-8 in clothes. I had an unhideable bump at 16 weeks. I was almost exclusively in mat clothes by 18 weeks. My friend is now 16 weeks and has a flatter stomach than I did before I started.

Tbskejue · 18/07/2024 07:15

I didn’t have a noticeable bump until 20 weeks and even then people needed to take a second look. I was desperate for a bump but with my second I showed a lot earlier and actually it was more comfortable first time around

HopefulllHolly · 18/07/2024 07:21

Everyone is different! I’m sure you’ll have a little bump soon - don’t worry.

Makes me laugh so many people saying a bump at 12 weeks is impossible for a first baby. No it’s definitely not. I have a pronounced one and it’s definitely not bloat. I’ll say it again - everyone is different!

CluelessInLondon · 18/07/2024 09:26

@HopefulllHolly I can't see anyone on this thread saying it's "impossible" to have a bump at 12 weeks, just that it's unlikely when baby is still so small - which it is. The point is that the OP doesn't need to be worried about not having a visible bump at 14-15 weeks because that's not unusual at all.

HopefulllHolly · 18/07/2024 10:07

@CluelessInLondon Saying it’s too early is just incorrect though. Your uterus is not small at 12 weeks - so you can have a bump. https://www.thebump.com/pregnancy-week-by-week/12-weeks-pregnant

That’s not to say it’s abnormal not to have one - my point is that everyone is different. Just because someone has one at 12 weeks doesn’t mean others will, and both are normal.

CluelessInLondon · 18/07/2024 10:15

@HopefulllHolly I don't want to get into a lot of back and forth on it as it's not relevant to the OP's original question, but again you are reading words that nobody is using - nobody has said "too early" just like nobody said "impossible", so I'm not sure why you keep quoting phrases that haven't actually been used by any of the posters on this thread. A number of posts above have said 12 weeks is early for a bump, and that the OP shouldn't expect to have one or worry about not having one at 14-15 weeks, and that it would be very normal and nothing to panic about if she doesn't have a bump for a few more weeks yet - all of which is true, and hopefully reassures her.

HopefulllHolly · 18/07/2024 10:22

@CluelessInLondon Lol you’re being very pedantic. You yourself said “12 weeks is very early to have a bump”. That minimises other people who may have one. My case in point still stands - everyone and every body is different. The OP shouldn’t worry if she doesn’t have a bump (which I’ve said several times). Just like others who do have one shouldn’t worry something is abnormal by having one. My comment is just as valid as yours and still reassures the poster, there’s zero need for you to even comment on it in actual fact. 😅

Muffin101 · 18/07/2024 10:28

Everyone is so different. I went to a school with a girl who didn’t have a bump at all, the whole way through. Totally flat stomach but a very healthy little boy! On the flip side, some people do have small bumps at 12 weeks, altho of course in a lot of cases these are mostly just noticeable to the pregnant woman herself, and maybe her partner.
I think my bump started making an appearance around 15/16 weeks the first time around and was noticeable to everyone by 20 weeks.
Don’t stress, it’ll come 😊

Imisscoffee2021 · 18/07/2024 10:30

It's usually bloating unless it's a 2nd child if there's a bump as early as 12 or 14 weeks. Don't worry, it'll come! I felt the same way, worried I was too small but then was a planet at 41+1 when he was finally forced out!

crankypanky · 18/07/2024 10:34

My first - I didn’t have a visible to the outside world bump until 34 weeks.
second & third - probably around 25 weeks.
fourth baby now 25 weeks & only just getting a small bump! Depends on the time of day how pregnant I look also due to bloating etc.
People would probably assume I just put a little bit of weight on if they saw me 😂
I don’t know whether to be glad or not. I want a cute bump/don’t want to look like I’ve gained weight, but also haven’t had to buy any new clothes yet so…

MarigoldExpress · 18/07/2024 10:37

1st pregnancy no real "definitely pregnant" bump until around 20/21 weeks, 2nd pregnancy had a bump at 5 weeks, suspected by colleagues by 7/8 weeks😂I met a friend of mine for the first time when she was more than 6 months pregnant and had no idea she was pregnant until she told me. Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy :)

Whereland · 18/07/2024 11:03

First baby didn't get a noticeable bump until 16/17 weeks. Second pregnancy had a bump by 12/13 weeks
