Morning sickness and medication

Hi everyone,

Its started. Last time I went from 6 weeks to 16/17.

I really don’t think I can do this again. Last time I didn’t have a toddler. I could just mope around the house throwing up every half hour until I managed to keep something down.

It does eventually stop at about 2-3 hours after waking but it’s a constant cycle of trying to take liquid or food then throwing up until right down to the bile.

Am aware this isn’t HG as that’s constant. But I do feel this is a severe morning sickness compared to most. Does this meet the bar for meds? Do they work? Are there any risks? Anyone have any experience.

Thank you 🙏

Yes, this meets the bar for medication.

Go and see your GP.

If you take the medication does that mean you have to take it for the whole pregnancy. Or does it taper off when you get past the time it classically stops and then med free?

Honestly I could just cry of happiness that there’s a chance I don’t have to have this sickness.

Absolutely get the meds - there's no point in suffering! I rang up my GP at I think 7 or 8 weeks and they prescribed Cyclizine over the phone based on what I told them. At that point I don't think I was vomiting yet but standard home remedies (ginger (which did nothing for me) and seabands (seemed to help but could have been a placebo!)) wasn't even touching the edges.

I found the cyclizine great for nausea and it knocked low-level quease on the head entirely. At the worst point I did still vomit at least once at least every other day with some days worse than others. But even then I could get through my day. It kicks in within half an hour so I'd take it as and when or before my partner started cooking dinner as food smells were absolute hell for me.

It's often seen as the first option and if it's no good other meds can be explored. Used very very often and extremely safe for you and baby.

You take it for a long as you need it.
If the sickness stops, you can stop the medication.

Yes Cyclizine or Prochloperazine can be prescribed for sickness, they both do work although Cyclizine can have drowsiness effects in some people.

I agree it meets the bar for meds the sooner you take them the sooner you can control it I’m on a combination as a preventative due to previous hg I took them before the sickness kicked in and so far have had zero nausea or sickness…there is also a new brand that has worked wonders for other women called xonevea it’s designed for use in pregnancy
