Waters trickling?

Flopsy145 · 14/07/2024 07:30

This morning at 4 I was awake and felt trickling out of my vagina, I stood up and my pants got wet so went to the toilet and was probably a wet patch (not sticky like discharge, just wet) 3cmx3cm. I went for a wee and stood up again and a few drips went on the floor. I've had a pad on but it hasn't got anything on it since then and the hospital midwives reckon it's not waters as it would continue to leak out.

Ever since I've been really crampy so I think I'm going to ask my local unit to swab me and double check. But did anyone else lose their waters like this where it was just a tiny bit then no more?
My due date is tomorrow and due for a c section in a few days.

From what you say it's probably your waters. Ring the delivery suite. Best of luck 💐

IggityZiggity · 14/07/2024 07:39

It could definitely be your waters!

Don't get fobbed off and insist on being checked. Someone I know had a baby who ended up being on antibiotics when born due to the waters having gone days ago. They were leaking so slowly and was told they weren't waters and then when they had the c section there was very little fluid left.

Funfaxfan · 14/07/2024 07:42

This happened to me and I was fobbed off by community midwife who refused to check or do the sweep she was supposed to do (I was 41 weeks at the time). She told me I'd wet myself. I hadn't wet myself the entire pregnancy and I know pee when I smell it!

Then I got reduced movements so went in and they then said it was hind waters, it had been 24 hours so straight into a drip induction etc.

I don't know if I could have avoided induction with the sweep but I still feel angry at that community midwife ten years on!

Go and get checked. Dont be fobbed off.

bumblebuz · 14/07/2024 07:43

This happened to me. Started with a little trickle every now and again, then stopped.
I went in to get checked and it was my waters.
Later that day it carried on and more came out every time I moved. They kept me in

SnookyPook · 14/07/2024 07:44

Always worth a check I'd say! Mine trickled but there was a constant low level leak that did leak onto a pad but that's not to say your experience couldn't be different! Mine was nothing like the Hollywood gush that you see in films etc. I went to hospital after a couple of hours and they swabbed me and confirmed. Good luck! 😊

Flopsy145 · 14/07/2024 07:46

Thank you all I feel a bit less silly now, if they can't check me at my local unit the hospital said I can come in and get checked so one way or the other I'll get a swab! The placement also doesn't track for urine as the wet patch was towards the back of my pants not the front where it would be urine. I've also never had discharge that watery, I just checked the pants it happened in and some bits of the wet have dried like water and other bits have dried like discharge so it definitely wasn't all discharge but maybe a bit came out along with waters 🤷🏻‍♀️ will keep you posted haha!

Yes me! Please get checked.

I went to the hospital after a trickle. The midwives swabbed me to test if it was water breaking and said she'd eat her hat if it was positive. It was positive.

NewLifter · 14/07/2024 08:12

Yes this definitely sounds like your waters, good luck ❤️

buma · 14/07/2024 08:20

As others have said, don't be fobbed off. It might be a case of them needing to carry out the c section earlier than planned.

My waters broke exactly how you have described. Trickled here and there throughout the day. It wasn't enough for me to be sure it was my waters. Went to the hospital to check and they gushed out all over the hospital floor just as I was getting in to the lift 🙈

Hope she had some good sauce to go with it 😂

Yes this happened to me. I was also fobbed off and told I probably just wet myself. It was happening for 2 days before I called them back and said I was coming in to be checked. Turns out I was in labour and it was indeed my waters.

Flopsy145 · 14/07/2024 11:28

Just home now, had a speculum examination and she said it's 100% just lots of discharge, didn't do the swab as I'd been lying down for so long and there was no fluid around and cervix all closed. She just said discharge can get watery at this stage but if any more trickles or big gushes happen to go back up 🤷🏻‍♀️ at least I can relax now though and not have it playing on my mind! Thanks all x

Glad you got checked over. I'm surprised they didn't do a swab however.
This is what happened with my first, it was never a constant trickle like they tell you. Just very intermittent small amounts of fluid dripping, nothing constant. I was checked over and the midwives told me it was probably nothing from what they could see but they swabbed me anyway and found it was in fact my waters, 'hind' waters apparently, which I had no idea was a thing.
Just keep your eye on it and if it continues throughout the day I would specifically request to be swabbed. X

I did ask for the swab but she said it's a high chance of a false positive and because she'd used the gel on the speculum it wouldn't be an accurate reading. I'm going to keep an eye on it today and any more dampness or anything different I'll definitely go back up! I have to go back tomorrow for a pre op anyway so will see how we go!

I think you've been fobbed off. Be very mindful of movements. Any changes go straight in.

Flopsy145 · 14/07/2024 11:58

@Funfaxfan I will do, thank you! So far movements all good and very active. I did want to be swabbed and kept asking but she wasn't budging, might do some long walks and squats and see if I can get more water out 😂

OP posts:
Funfaxfan · 14/07/2024 14:07

Don't forget it's about consistent movements. Very active can be problematic if it's out of the ordinary.

Flopsy145 · 14/07/2024 14:10

@Funfaxfan I don't think it's any different to usual, he's always been relatively active at certain points in the day or if I eat or drink something very cold, so I've noticed it being any different today. Will keep an eye out though!

OP posts:
MixedCouple2 · 14/07/2024 16:15

Your waters can break at the top which causes a very slow gentle release of waters. At the bottom would be more consistent. So I would call up triage and keep on a pad for thrm to check also.

Flopsy145 · 14/07/2024 16:36

Thank you @MixedCouple2 I've not had anymore fluid since, just more obvious discharge, so I think so far ok 🤞🏻
