BV and pregnant - is it okay to self-diagnose & treat at home?

Hi, first post. 10 weeks pregnant and suspect i have BV ... been googling things and scaring myself all morning by reading that say BV can lead to complications/miscarriage/low birth weight etc. My first question is - can I treat myself at home without consulting GP or midwife? (i bought Balance activ BV gel to try later.)
Secondly, even if BV is treated and goes away, will that still put me at risk of miscarriage and complications etc?? Or am i worrying unnecessarily?
I didn't phone GP because it's the weekend and they aren't opened, thought I'd try sorting it myself first. TIA

Hey, I had BV in my first pregnancy but I think I was around 15-20 weeks. The GP diagnosed by doing a swab just to double check what it was and then prescribed me pessaries. I didn't have any side effects whatsoever. Personally if I were you I would get a medical opinion before you take anything because I'm not sure if the stuff that's prescribed is the same as the balance active.

What are your symptoms?
Could it be thrush rather than BV?
I'd see a gp/nurse tbh

Symptoms, bad fishy smell and large amounts of pale yellowish discharge. No burning or anything else though

Just to say you can buy a quick test from boots that indicates whether you’re likely to have BV or not. There will be a walk in place you can go to tomorrow to see a gp if you don’t want to wait until Monday.
