Progesterone

I’ve been prescribed progesterone as a precaution following light spotting and previous MMC. The doctor said I don’t have to take it as baby has strong heart beat but it’s there if I want too. Has anyone else been recommended this and how have you found it? Just looking for advice as I wasn’t offered it in my previous pregnancy after bleeding. I'm just feeling a little anxious about the spotting and cramping that people have commented about. Thanks

I had a scan on Wednesday at 6+6 and was prescribed it then due to previous MMC and they could see a small pocket of bleeding next to the sac. I was told there’d be no harm in taking it and all it does is support a viable pregnancy. So far I’ve had no side effects from it except maybe a bit of extra bloating

There is some good information on the tommys website about the research into taking progesterone if you have bleeding and have had previous losses. I’ve taken it and the only potential side effect has been some bloating but fine otherwise. My miscarriage clinic told me it can be taken either vaginally or rectally. Good luck.

Hey, I have been taking progesterone since finding out I was pregnant and am now 14 weeks, this was due to previous miscarriages. I’ve had no issues taking it, I take once in the morning and the evening. It can cause a little mess if used vaginally but I’ve had no real side effects with it other than bloating like others have said 😊

Hi OP, as others have said it's new research that has brought about this recommendation so probably not offered in your last pregnancy as its now the most up to date info.
When you said you're nervous about side effects of spotting etc - I just want to reassure you that with progesterone that can happen due to physical irritation to the cervix, but is completely different to pregnancy related bleeding if that makes sense. So the spotting you're experiencing now is the concern. The spotting from progesterone is not a concern as just caused by the pessary being an irritant. However most people don't even experience this. Can be used rectally without issue if it's a concern.
It's a hormone you're producing anyway to support a healthy pregnancy, just a little extra to hopefully maintain. Hope this makes sense and best of luck💕
