Bleeding with progesterone

I'm currently 4w6d (21DPO) and using progesterone pessaries. I started using them as soon as I found out last Friday as I've had four miscarriages - no living children.

I've just gone to the toilet and wiped and there's fairly light brown blood on the toilet paper. Is this something you've experienced before and what was the outcome?

I've never used progesterone before so I don't know if this is the potential cause or I'm heading towards my fifth miscarriage 😕

Are you inserting them vaginally? I had spotting/bleeding at 6 weeks as they irritated my cervix. I changed to rectal and nothing since.

Thanks for the reply @WhiskeyInTheJar33 - yes I am and I'm using an applicator which honestly doesn't feel the best so I'm thinking to stop that but I just wanted to get it "right up there" 😬. How far along are you?

With my track record I just had a really sad feeling of Deja vu with seeing any type of bleeding being the start of a miscarriage 😕 so I'm really hoping the Cylogest is the cause.

With Cyclogest, if you want to avoid any possibility of irritating your cervix then you can use it rectally. Much less messy, too. Best of luck!

I’d second going with rectally, at least then you can be sure of not irritating your cervix.

ScouseMouse888 · 12/07/2024 21:31

Thank you @Persipan @Awaywiththeferries123 thanks so much to the both of you. Have you personally had this brown discharge from it? I've tried to read as much as I can whilst freaking out that this is another start to the end 😕

When I had my ivf, the progesterone was rectally too. Also had a little spotting and just rested completely. Work also knew about the ivf and let me have two weeks off to rest too. Lots of best wishes to you. Try the other way tomorrow!

Thank you @tryingsomethingnew - so even with going ✨backstage✨ you still had spotting like what I've had, did you? I'm praying it's the cyclogest that's the cause. I'm 39 with no living children 😕

I didn’t have any spotting with the cyclogest but I switched to using rectally pretty quickly as it’s just much more convenient.

However I do understand your fears. I had 7 losses between the ages of 39 and 42 before finally having my baby the week before I turned 43.

I hope this one sticks for you.

WhiskeyInTheJar33 · 13/07/2024 07:52

@ScouseMouse888 I am now 13 weeks and about to stop cyclogest.

tryingsomethingnew · 13/07/2024 10:31

Yes I remembered it when someone said that earlier. I think I was about 8-10 weeks at that point. I didn't stop life, but did take a few weeks off from work. Some people don't need to do that so you'll be fine either way. I teach and it was just before the summer holidays.

tryingsomethingnew · 13/07/2024 10:33

And yes, I was always doing it rectally, and still had that. Obviously keep an eye on it and speak to the doctor if you can. It's all about mind over matter, I know how hard it is to relax, but I listened to some conception mimdlefulness tapes. Can't remember the female authors name, but something about manifesting or positive thinking.
