Supposed to have consultant call this morning. No call has happened.

So I was meant to have a telephone appointment with a consultant this morning for a birth debrief on my previous birth and also discuss choice of c section for this pregnancy. The appointment letter said 10:30. It’s now 2pm and they still have called. I’ve called the antenatal line 9 times and no one has picked up at any time.

I just called PALS to see if they could help and I was told ‘don’t worry they will call’ over and over again. I explained that we had paid for extra nursery today so my child was not around at the time of the call and I’ve got to pick him up in an hour. This was met with no empathy at all and again told to not worry they will call.

I have had huge anxiety leading up to this appointment to talk about my previous birth and now it seems this appointment isn’t even going to happen. Am I being unreasonable to be so angry?

Not unreasonable to be angry, but I don’t think this is that unusual unfortunately. I’ve twice had medical phone appointments which just didn’t happen because nobody called. Most places are very understaffed and overwhelmed.

Can you request that it’s in person instead next time? It’s harder for them to ignore you if you’re sat right there!

He's probably in surgery. Saving lives.

But OP had an appointment. For which she has rightly made childcare provision. And for all the consultant knows, may have taken a day off work for.

The consultant may indeed be in surgery, but OP still deserves the courtesy of notification from someone of a changed schedule.

Can tell the kind of person you are by the fact you’ve assumed it’s a he ☺️

They are probably dealing with an emergency. Yes, it’s annoying and an inconvenience but someone else is probably going through a lot worse right now.

What makes you assume it's a man?

It's anecdotal a male surgeon saved my daughter's life and my grandsons. I daresay he missed a clinic and phone calls to do so. But I'm bloody glad he did.

A male surgeon saved your daughter’s life…therefore all surgeons are male?! 🤯
