I'm looking for a cot which has a removable side so that it can be placed right next to my bed....

Does anyone know if they have a specific name? Or do I just need to look through all the descriptions?

Can anyone recommend one?

thanks, YCBS

I think they might be called 'bedside cots'?

here's one but I think you can get smaller ones?

My John Lewis cot on the highest setting with the side down butts up to my bed and fits perfectly.

How high is your bed?

Mamas and Papas "Close and Cosy" cot

We got one of the Mamas and Papas Close and Cosy Bedside Cots before DD was born. It seemed so big against the bed that we also got one of these bedside cribs (also much easier to lower sleeping baby into ).

We did wind up using the M&P one once she got too big and it did work well - it's the only bedside cot I could find that had any means of covering the gap between your mattress and the cot mattress, plus it's very height adjustable. It feels well made and of good quality. Things I'm not so keen on with that one in particular include:

  • the safety bolster thing is really quite large, and takes up a significant percentage of DC's space (and yes, it tapers, but there's still a ridge that DD seemed to notice).
  • the back of the crib is higher than the drop side, which is quite nice now it's in use as a normal crib but did make lowering in a sleeping baby a challenge.
  • DH curses every time he's had to move the base as it's a bit of a pain to adjust.
  • I don't find the drop action very easy to use, and I don't find it easy to lock the drop side into position without waking DD.

As a general thing, though, I don't regret having a bedside cot (and crib!). The biggest problems I had were trying to get out of bed around the end of the thing and trying to return 18lb baby to the cot without waking them up.
