Weight gain stopped

Hi all,

Not so much worried as curious.

For context my bmi is high (36) and I am 27 weeks. Have gained 9kg so far but nothing for two weeks.

So my questions are:

  • how much did you gain during pregnancy? (Can't believe the average is only 10-12kg)
  • did weight gain speed up or slow down towards end?

Exactly….the weight of baby, placenta, fluids…which is what I said.

I’m not arguing, based on the replies you’ve had you’re only acknowledging the ones telling you it’s fine to keep putting on weight. Your BMI is well into the obese category but you seem to want to continue gaining.

"seem to want to keep gaining"

That's proper harsh and you should really attempt to moderate yourself here. The very last thing any women should do when pregnant is attempt to restrict or diet in anyway.

Some people gain, some people lose. Judgement is not necessary and the only person allowed an opinion is the Dr/Midwife involved in your care.

I disagree. I’m not saying lose weight I’m saying be cautious, there are already so many risks.

Sorry me again. Please don’t restrict your diet or try to cut out foods so you don’t gain weight. Although I’ve only gained the weight of what my baby currently weighs, twice when I’ve had my urine tested at check ups they’ve picked up that im not eating enough due to ketones in my urine. Don’t worry if you’re not gaining at the moment, just ensure you’re eating and drinking enough xx

@FTMaz bmi is a really crude measure of weight which is inaccurate for a number of reasons. I have a healthy pregnancy with no complications, am active and eat well. I haven't once said I want to gain weight, simply that I've noticed I haven't gained for two weeks and was curious about it. I'm not concerned about my weight, my midwife isn't concerned about my weight, so whatever fat phobic ideas you have are your own problem. Read others comnents if you'd like some guidance on how to speak about weight respectfully.

@AimeeLou84 don't worry! I'm not restricting. Even first trimester when I was really sick I managed to get things down! Hope you're managing x

Just don’t want the stupid comment above about weight gain to stop you eating. Enjoy your pregnancy x

It’s not ‘fat phobic’ as you call it to speak truth. Being over weight does increase risk….thats a fact.

in this day and age people who are overweight just expect to be told they’re making a choice that is fine instead of the reality.

malimoon · 08/07/2024 17:50

@FTMaz you can tell yourself you're not being fatphobic but you're definitely being kind of aggro, I think your point has been made so not sure why you're still here picking a fight

It's not the 'truth though is it babies. Bmi is a poor indicator of health. You've no idea what my muscle to fat ratio is, what my fitness level is, anything about my diet or my general.

BMI calculator

BMI a poor metric for measuring people’s health, say experts

Clinicians should pull back on the widespread use of body mass index (BMI) as a metric for assessing people’s health because it can lead to patient distrust and delayed care, say some health expert…

This is recommended weight gain as per the nct website. I've only gained 2kg so far when my bmi was 28, but at 25 weeks I know the weight comes on quickly after this

Weight gain stopped
Sara1988 · 08/07/2024 18:19

@123letsblaze thanks for this. I've had kind of the opposite experience where I put on loads 1st and 2nd and now its slowed down! Not complaining though as I've already put on 9kg.

If you believe that then why mention your BMI in the first place? It’s only a poor indicator for people seriously into weight lifting. To have a BMI of 35 and not have excessive amounts of fat you would have to have a massive amount of muscle especially as a woman. Before pregnancy I was a semi professional athlete so I am well aware of muscle to fat ratios. It’s you that needs to educate yourself and stop being deluded

Sara1988 · 08/07/2024 20:44

@FTMaz as I've said, you have no idea what health and lifestyle is. Have a lovely day.
