Choline in pregnancy

I read about benefits of choline in pregnancy and have started taking supplements in the third trimester. But, I am still not sure as midwives don't have an opinion on this or any guidance on NHS etc. can someone share any experience of taking Choline.

Never heard of it-but looks like similar benefits on neural tube development as folic acid - which happens in first trimester; so can’t really see benefits in third trimester. I’m personally a big advocate of getting nutrients through diet rather than artificial supplements.

Totally anecdotal but I took choline in the third trimester with DC1. I was very keen on optimising everything with that pregnancy. With DC2 I was very nauseous and struggling to cover the basics.

DC1 is extremely clever and has very fast processing skills (consistently top of class at highly selective school). DC2 is bright but not in the same league as DC1 (good but nowhere near top at same school). Neither has ADHD (strong family history).

Probably not the choline, but it can't hurt.

I'm a midwife, it's definitely very new on the scene so most midwives and doctors won't have an opinion on it, but from my limited understanding it's got similar benefits to folic acid as well as supporting brain development. I'm sure we'll be hearing more about it in the coming years. It certainly can't hurt!
