What helped your nausea?

I'm practically begging for help

Currently 9 weeks into my second pregnancy and the nausea is really kicking my backside this time. It was pretty rough with #1 but this time it's been constant. I can't stand any smells, good, bad, cooking, or even the smell of my husband 😬

I'm at the point that I have to go elsewhere in the house during mealtimes whilst my toddler and husband eat together but it only provides so much relief. My son is currently going through a phase where he LOVES to share (and it really is a lovely thing, I'm very grateful he's so kind), but also won't take no for an answer when trying to force feed me bits of his fruit..

What have you done (if anything) that's actually helped alleviate the feeling? I'm not really eating anything substantial and mainly been living off toast. Even drinking seems to be making it worse 😖 I know it won't last forever but it feels like there's no end in sight 😭

honestly, nothing for me. just waited til luckily it eased at 12/13 weeks.

I would absolutely recommend those sea band acupressure things. I have no idea if it was mind over matter, but as soon as I put them on the nausea disappeared, and I made sure I had them on at all times. Please try it!

I had those during my first and I felt like they did help a little, but I wore them for so long it was as if they stopped working. Also set me off when they got wet when washing my hands lol, but I've ordered a different type (the Frida Mom ones) so I'm looking forward to trying those, a different material too so hopefully fairs better with hand washing 🤣

Was that pretty much the end of it for you? It came back a little later on for me but nowhere near as awful. I've heard some women can have it all the way through but I'm just trying to pretend it's just a scary story 😆

Smelling antibac wipes seemed to help for me

Leglessly · 04/07/2024 14:25

Sip cold lemonade (or whatever cold, sugary drink you like).

Eat fruit pastels and fruity ice lollies.

Sniff something fresh like shower gel/a lemon/whatever you find clean and fresh smelling.

Have ready salted crisps and plain biscuits to hand wherever you go, even on your bed side table.

Never let yourself get too hungry. I don't know if it was just my experience in my pregnancies, but I'd go from "ooh I'm a bit peckish" to "fuck me, I'm going to vomit and pass out" rapidly if I didn't nibble at something as soon as I felt hunger pangs.

It passed between 12-16 weeks in each of my pregnancies. X

Ginger helps with sickness. You can get soft drinks, teas, biscuits, savoury items, all sorts.

@Leglessly not getting too hungry is definitely a thing. Being hungry made me feel much sicker in pregnancy.

Starbiscuit · 04/07/2024 14:44

Absolutely nothing worked for me 😔 It eased around 14/15 weeks. Hope it passes quickly for you xx

PumpingRSI · 04/07/2024 14:46

Cyclizine hydrochloride, 50mg, 3 times a day prescribed by doctor. Plus Vit B complex tablets.

I couldn't have survived otherwise.

Foxtrotbeta · 04/07/2024 14:59

Medication is the only thing that has helped me too. None of the old wives tales or lifestyle changes made any impact.

OopsieeDaisy · 04/07/2024 22:15

I’d agree with pps that avoiding having an empty stomach helped me, as well as chewing minty gum and certain foods like salt & vinegar crisps, sour sweets, Babybels and Granny Smith apples. Hope you find something that works for you until it passes!

DinoGD · 04/07/2024 22:39

Crisps helped for me! Salted or salt & vinegar and plain crackers - only things that helped!

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 04/07/2024 22:42

Greek yoghurt
Not getting too hungry
Eating some plain crackers / biscuits before getting out of bed
Sip don't chug drinks- water on an empty stomach made me vomit at one point
Smelling citrus

Loafbeginsat60 · 04/07/2024 22:44

I nibbled Nice biscuits all the time. As soon as I woke i had one on the go!

Cooking smells are hard tho. Time for a summer of salads perhaps...!

AloeVerity · 04/07/2024 22:47

Granny Smiths or even better, cooking apples are your friend.
