As the title says, I had a growth scan today and my little girl is weighing 8lb 11! 2 weeks ago she was weighing 7lb 2. Her femur length as decreased so they think the previous scan measurements were wrong. My question is, if they were wrong, could they be wrong about her weight? I do have GD and also high polyhydramnios. I just don’t get how she’s put on so much in 2 weeks - has anyone else had this? I’ve got a c section booked in for a week tomorrow

I'd take the weight they're saying with a pinch of salt. I was told DD would be 10lb+ she was just over 7...

KittensSchmittens · 03/07/2024 20:51

@JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn honestly how are they that bad at estimating weight, I feel like I could eyeball a 3lb difference from the size of the bump 😂

On the converse, I had a 10lb 5er and nobody warned me!!

ladygindiva · 03/07/2024 21:02

Echoing those saying predictions can be inaccurate... Was told to expect my twins to be large (just shy of 8 pounds at 37 weeks) and tiny ( under 5 lbs) they were both between 6 and 7 pounds.

😱

My second was 10 lb 2 nobody realised he was that big and he was 2 weeks early natural birth 😯, my 3rd was predicted to be 10lb plus c section booked and she was 7lbs x

Totally wrong for me. They told me not to buy newborn clothes, my 7.1lb baby was swamped in too big clothes until I could buy newborn clothes.

AimeeLou84 · 03/07/2024 21:35

Thank you so much for sharing all your experiences!! I feel a lot better now. I mean I’m having a c section because they’ve scared me saying she might get stuck and I really wanted to do natural but I can’t risk it now. As long as she is healthy I don’t mind what she weighs it’s just the fact that the last few scans have been up and down and so inaccurate. I have one sonographer telling me the previous scan must have been wrong, it’s all hit and miss which is a bit annoying. I’ll start unpacking my newborn clothes from the hospital bag though 🤣

What is IUGR?

Intrauterine Growth Restriction - basically when a baby is growing more slowly than they should be for their gestational age and are born weighing 2.5kg or less. Often linked to issue with blood flow / placenta. My eldest DD was suspected IUGR (she was 2.6kg when born) due to high pressure in one of my uterine arteries plus high BP issues in me.

MyInduction · 03/07/2024 21:59

My growth scans were correct. My bump was really small but my baby was exactly as predicted (nowhere near as large as yours though). I know a lot of women who were predicted to have big babies and the scans were spot on.

Take a range of clothes. Dd was in 3-6 months from birth and they were outgrown very quickly. Nothing I took for her fitted and dh had to go home and bring in bigger sizes.

Take a couple of newborn, couple of 0-3 and a couple of 3-6 just incase.

Good idea thank you! Going to be gutted if she doesn’t fit in the 0-3 months…I’ve bought so many. Good job I didn’t stock up on newborn nappies!

My baby was underweight and causing concern

12lbs and largest in the hospital in a year

PoopingAllTheWay · 03/07/2024 23:53

Friend induced due to ‘big baby’
She was 6 lb

Friend told, baby will be average size
He was 10lb,10oz

They can and are alot of the time wrong

SH998 · 04/07/2024 06:26

I had regular growth scans due to my age, BMI and it was an IVF pregnancy.
Throughout my pregnancy the baby was showing to weigh approx 8lb6, with the head measuring approx 90 percentile, tummy 80 percentile and femur just 15 percentile.
Baby arrived weighing 7lb3 and 50 percentile so in my case the measurements throughout the pregnancy didn’t appear correct.
Try not to worry as they are just estimations.
Good luck x

VelvetBow · 04/07/2024 06:35

All of my growth scans were correct. At 39 weeks my polyhydramnios baby came out naturally at 9lb7.5oz after an induction. My second baby 8lb12 at 38 weeks. Third 6lb13oz at 37 weeks and fourth 8lb13 via C-section at 37 weeks.

No matter their size, they can be birthed healthily. No GD in my case but I just grow them big and they're nothing to be afraid of!

AimeeLou84 · 04/07/2024 08:50

Thanks everyone. I didn’t once think my scans / measurements were incorrect until yesterday when they said the femur length has gone down. I mean, her legs can’t just shrink 🙄 So when they mentioned the last scan being wrong 2 weeks ago, I had a look back and at 30 weeks they noted ‘slow growth’ then apparently she’s sped up since then. I’ve been having scans every 2 weeks throughout the pregnancy due to my GD and Poly so now I’m thinking maybe they have been a bit incorrect for last 8 weeks. All I can do is just wait and see. Just hope she isn’t too big 🤣
