Have COVID in the third trimester

Hi all,

I'm just wondering if anybody else has had Covid in the third trimester? I've just tested positive and I'm devastated as I've read how it's dangerous to have it in the third trimester and apparently the strain going round at the minute is really nasty. I also already have underlying health conditions with my lungs and have had Covid bad in the past so I'm really scared it's going to affect my baby.

Any reassurance would be appreciated as I'm feeling really low right now :(

I had COVID at 32 weeks, BB and I were both completely fine (LO is now 14 months!). And the good news is you may pass some immunity to the baby. But if you're at all worried ring the midwives, they can check everything's ok.

Covid at 36 weeks back in 2022. Me and baby (now toddler) completely fine. Worth adding I’m also immuno suppressed and have asthma so was classed at significant risk but no problems at all x

Had it at 6 and 32 weeks, felt like death the first time, less so the second. Absolutely no issues,18mo currently destroying the living room (unrelated to covid exposure!)

I had it at 37 weeks, lost my sense of taste but luckily just felt like a really bad cold.
I told my midwife who dropped round a pulse oximeter to keep an eye on my oxygen levels and if they dropped massively or if I felt really unwell, I was to call the MAU straight away

I had covid at 36-37 weeks and my 2 year old son is a perfect, clever, gorgeous, loving funny, angelic little mad whirlwind. Try not to panic, just rest if you can. My then 3 year old also had chicken pox at that same time and I also had to have him turned at 38 weeks, and he’s 100% more than fine!

I've just had it, tested positive at 36 weeks and I'm now 38 weeks and not 100% recovered yet. It's a nasty enough dose if I'm being honest. My advice is not to have any expectations of yourself just rest rest rest and hydrate really well! Eat some good meals when you feel up to it.

I was very worried about baby at first, but they never stopped moving all felt very normal in that sense. I just kept an extra close eye on movement. After about 2 days I didn't feel as worried anymore.

Once I was out of isolation I had my antenatal appointment and was given a departmental ultrasound so that checked dopplers, fluid, placenta etc and that gave me so much peace of mind. So if that is possible where you attend I'm sure you'd feel the better for it😊 I expressed my concern about covid in the 3rd trimester but they said they just sort of can't tell people it's absolutely fine because no one knows 100%.. But that they're really not that concerned and don't see the placental issues they saw with the original more dangerous covid strains so to try not to worry about it.

Not sure if you want to know but my main symptoms were sinus pain, sore throat, headaches and weakness/dizziness. Every time I stood up my heart rate shot up to 140 and even sometimes sitting still it did this out of the blue. That was the most worrying so I did contact the hospital about it and they said it's a common Covid symptom and it would pass. At the end of it all I got a very annoying cough and that is still lingering along with the sinus issue.

Hope you recover really soon I'm sorry you've got it! Seems to be everwhere at the moment😢 Id always say ring your hospital or midwife for any specific advice or concerns in your personal circumstance. They won't mind at all if you call!

Currently have it, 38+4, tested positive a couple of days ago, feeling very depressed, but agree with PP’s view.

Thank you so much everyone, feeling a bit better about it after reading your replies. Really hoping I don't get too poorly 🤞 x

Thank you sooo much, I'm already having a growth scan a week today anyway which the midwives have said I can still go to so hoping that that will reassure me x
