Advice on 25 wk pelvic pain - to ignore or do something?

This is my first pregnancy - I'm new to the aches and pains, so I don't know if this is normal or if I should get seen to!

Since I did a big gym workout on Friday, I've been in some significant muscular pain below my belly button, and where my inner thighs meet my groin area - almost the bones of my legs and pelvis, like I've been sat on a bike for ages. I'm still hobbling 5 days later, and can't easily get up out of a chair or get walking. When I walk I'm slow and achey. Otherwise feel fine.

I'm expecting some ligament pain as I've started to expand noticeably recently, but this seems a bit much.

Have I just overdone it in the gym? (I did focus on (pregnancy safe) abs and thighs/hamstrings on Friday, though 3 hours was probably too long a session.) Do I just wait for it to go away? It's taking so much longer than aches and pains normally do to go away after a big workout!

I'm 5"5 and now 62 kg (pre-pregnancy 55kg), and fairly fit and active. Had a midwife appt on Monday and baby's heartbeat is fine.

Hey, this sounds like pelvic girdle pain (PGP): https://www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/related-conditions/common-symptoms/pelvic-pain/

If it's persistent then you can ask for a referral to a physio who can give you some exercises to help. I've also seen a bunch of tips online if you search for PGP, things like putting a plastic bag on your car seat so you can spin round with both knees together to get out which is apparently less painful. It's common so I wouldn't be concerned for baby or anything but if it's really bothering you then definitely ask for help!

That's round ligament pain. Mine was also always triggered by exercise and hip rotations. I took it easy and it went away..
However it will keep reoccurring throughout pregnancy, even while shifting in bed..

It's how my PGP started. Do NOT ignore, it will get much worse and you'll end up in crutches if you are not careful or, even worse, it won't go away after birth.

No walking, running, definitely no single leg exercises. Both feet on the ground at all times essentially. See a physio. Lots of rest unfortunately which is boring as fuck. I hate it. It's severely damaged my mental health, but you have to take it seriously.

Please speak to your gp or midwife and don't let
Them fob you off! Mine started around 30 weeks and gradually became worse to the point I was housebound the last two weeks of pregnancy

I am experiencing the same and it is PGP.

I thought I was doing everything right by staying active and doing pregnancy type exercises. But PGP means you really need to be mindful of how you move you body. No one leg movements (including putting on shoes and getting changed), do strengthening exercises (google pgp yoga) and absolutely no wide leg stretches / squats. Only walk up until the point you feel pain.

Thank you everyone. It does seem like PGP, and I’ve had lower back problems before which fits too.

I’ll flag it with the midwife and follow the guidance!

It’s tough trying to get the balance between staying active, but not too active. And also tricky knowing when to raise issues or just get on with it!

I’d be grateful for any stories of people who have successfully managed it. I keep reading of people are still running at 30 weeks, and I’m currently hobbling so feel like a failure!

I really feel for you, it's awful. But don't feel like a disappointment about something you can't control, hormones cause your ligaments to loosen in pregnancy which can be the culprit. It can happen to absolutely anyone who is pregnant. I was very fit and active and ended up on crutches with physio for a year after although I had slightly different issue. Get to physio asap, the sooner the better. Tips for easing it, sleep with pillow between knees, always move both legs at same time (off bed etc). Maybe try yoga or pilates as it'll keep you active but it's easier on you.

Honestly, I am 32 weeks now, PGP since week 15 and felt like a total failure. I was active and fit before pregnancy so I thought I'd keep exercising etc.

Now I'm in my third trimester I get A LOT of sympathy and attention.

But in my second trimester, all I got was "this is the best time" or "just wait until the 3rd trimester, you have no idea how good you have it now" kind of comments, friends not getting why I was cancelling plans etc. I had a few really bad flare ups at weeks 24-26 and I actually couldn't walk. At all. And I was in absolute agony and cried non stop for days because no one had any sympathy.

My lesson from pregnancy is that no pregnancy is the same. Take it one day at a time and don't compare yourself to anyone.

After my experience, I have stopped telling people in real life how I feel. If someone at work or a friend asks how I'm doing, I say I'm doing great and feel amazing. Because that's what people want to hear and I have given up being honest...so don't believe anything anyone says!!!

BabyFedUp445 · 04/07/2024 16:02

Oh and I kept doing the exercises physio gave me and at 32 weeks I don't feel any worse or need crutches or anything. I haven't had any bad flare ups in weeks and I have just adjusted to no walking/running etc. Just accept being lazy I guess.

Serola belt and the exercise ball are your friends.
