Can flu affect pregnancy?

Currently 27 weeks pregnant and have got a flu since yesterday. Feeling utterly unwell but no fever, just worried if this flu can affect the baby? Also, any suggestions are most welcome. Thanks

Sorry you're feeling unwell.

Yes the flu can affect you and the baby which is why they advise having the flu jab whilst pregnant.

I'm not a doctor so don't know the ins and outs but if you Google "flu in pregnancy NHS" there's lots of info on there.

Hope you're feeling better soon x

Also lots of covid about at the moment so it could be that. Keep up your fluids intake and call your GP if you think you need assessing.

Yes the flu can affect the pregnancy I would advise you contact your midwife,

Of course it can. That’s why pregnant women are offered flu jabs.

It's mainly the fevers that are dangerous in pregnancy. If you have a fever make contact with the emergency room in your hospital. Or if you become very dehydrated.

It's probably Covid as we are not in Flu season anymore, but the new strain of Covid is rampant and a really wicked dose (I'm currently day 14 of being unwell with it at 38 weeks). I would inform your midwife either way.

I got appointment with GP, she asked to rest and take paracetamol if fever, nothing else. Took COVID test, but came negative. No fever yet.

OP, women are offered the flu jab during pregnancy as they are MORE LIKELY to get flu due to lower immune systems. Not because it is necessarily harmful to the baby.

The one thing that can be problematic is a fever - so if you have a fever you should contact your maternity triage unit.

I had the flu jab in Sep and they said this year, that's enough, I will get another one this Sep.
