Hi I’m due my third baby 10.7.2024. Had my last before this by elective section 18 months ago due to unstable lie. My first was in 2020 forceps.

I have met a different consultant with a different opinion at each appointment and I just can’t decide on a birth plan.

options are:

  1. elective section
  2. Vbac by induction (I’m not going into labour naturally and alrdy 39 weeks. They won’t let me go over because I have gestational diabetes and taking metformin for fasting levels. )
any advice ?

I've been given the option of elective section or vbac by spontaneous labour due to my last being c section, I have chosen c section purely because I know what to expect, a lot of experiences sound as if recovery is better with an elective compared to an emergency, I already have a child who a) I can plan for and b) I'm not going to put myself in any unnecessary danger (last time lost a lot of blood etc) and risk anything. I also have a suspected very big baby so I don't want to risk causing any issues for him or me if he was to come out naturally.
My consultant said the chances of a successful vbac is the same as a first pregnancy though, but I still felt a section (unless he makes an early appearance of course) is the best course of action for me.
So I don't really have any advice as only you know what the right decision for you is, but I thought it would help to hear someone else's thoughts processes and see if it says anything for you ❤️

I was talking to someone about this recently who has years of experience teaching about labour and said that a lot of inductions end up with having a c section anyway.

I’m hoping to have a VBAC this time and my midwife is strongly against trying if I need to have an induction as the success rate drops significantly and risk of your uterus rapturing increased massively.

I had GD last time and this time too, but they are willing to let me go to 40 weeks if I have additional monitoring. Can that be an option for you?
