Taking the plunge to ttc - is it just me?

I’m not exactly a spring chicken and nor is my H so we’ve decided next month is the month we start ttc. I’m bloody petrified though! Is this normal?? We both agree it’s 100% what we want but I can’t seem to get my head around not using contraception and just going for it. I can’t imagine being pregnant, being a mum or having a baby. Did anyone else feel like this and how did you throw caution to the wind and go for it?

It's normal I think. The first month we TTC I had a little panic then felt relieved not to be pregnant. Four months down the line I was desperate to conceive, and love, love, LOVE being a mother so far.

Ahhh that’s so reassuring to hear (and congrats!). So glad it’s not just me!

I always said I would never have children. Then I met DH and when started TTC, though I was scared I just knew that it was what I wanted. Got pregnant straight away and now have a beautiful 21mo DS who is my world. Being a mother is amazing. Yes it's relentless and boring at times but it's the best thing I ever did or probably will ever do. Don't overthink it. If you and your DH both want it then go for it 😊

Yes, I think you just have to go for it. You may not conceive as quickly as you expect (I was very naive about this - I thought we'd dtd and bam! There'd be a baby. Actually, it took quite a long time and all the disappointments and waiting helped reinforce that I did in fact want a baby). What helped me most was looking at the past few years and thinking, 'what would it have been like if I'd had a baby last year, or two years ago? Would I really have missed out on anything? Would life actually be hugely different?' The answer was always no.

I still can't really imagine having a baby, but billions of people have done it, so I don't think it can be such a big deal.

Good luck, OP!

Yes you may not conceive straightaway so don't overthink it and just get started!

I was jittery and excited to begin with but that wore off until we'd basically lost hope nearly 2y later and then finally conceived!

Being a mum is great, I recommend it. It's so hard but so rewarding and it kind of opens a door to a whole world you never knew existed.

Being pregnant and giving birth are awful. But temporary!
