Head bulges in belly

Hello ladies I’m 35+5 with breech baby, I’ve noticed the last week my baby’s head sticks out so much in my belly for shorts periods of time. It’s not painful but feelings like tightening pressure when she does it! I think she’s trying to turn but pushing the wrong way. Has anyone else’s baby done this and successfully turned? I almost feel sad for her that she’s trying to get head down and she can’t / doesn’t have any space to move. But not sure if that’s a narrative I’ve made up in my head.

But when I say I get a head sticking out I mean it’s like an orange size bulge on the side of my stomach not just a lump 🤣

Are you sure it’s not Braxton Hicks? That’s what mine was like - whole belly goes tight and hard and weird shaped for a couple of minutes.

Aw bless. I’m 34 weeks and am seeing body parts sticking out all over the place! Have you looked at the spinning babies website? They have moves you can do to encourage baby to turn and give them the space to flip round. Also heard a tip to put a hot water bottle at the bottom of your tummy and frozen peas at the top can get them moving further down!

Mine did that with Braxton hicks, would come in a particular place and go really tight, wasn't the head as knew at that point she was either head down or slightly traverse, I assume it was maybe her bottom, but turns out Braxton hicks were the cause

Thank you! Yeah I’ve been on my pregnancy ball since I found out she was breech (32 weeks) and have been doing the exercises from spinning babies!

Ive definitely had braxton hicks with it a few times, but its more pushing out than contracting in, I know she’s in breech from scan and can tell where her head is as usually below my right rib by every now and then she’s almost transverse then comes back up 🥲 but could be braxton hicks tightening around her head which might make sense but is it normal to tighten that much around her?

It could be with it tightening around her, but I hadn’t seen from online or others that braxon hicks tightening so much around the head? It feels like she’s pushing outward vs contracting in if that makes sense

That exactly how it felt for me - literally like the baby was pushing itself out of my stomach, weird sensation. Next time it happens have a feel of all over your bump. If it’s all hard you know it’s Braxton Hicks. If it was the baby pushing its head against you then your bump would still be squishy everywhere else.
Mine wasn’t breach btw but my bump still went the same shape as your picture.

Mine use to tighten a lot, it would look like a very strong lump, would pick up as a contraction when I was on the monitor and go way up over 100, I did have some pics of it but I seem to have deleted them

My bump looks like this and i'm 37 weeks with a breech. Head is exactly where your bulge is too!

I'm 33 weeks and my baby has been doing this at various points since around 20 weeks. In fact he's doing it right now, sticking his bum or legs forward right under my ribs (he's head down). It feels like he likes pushing forward against the walls. I can pretty much feel his entire outline pressing against me when he really fancies stretching out. Don't think it's Braxton Hicks, just him!

I remember with my eldest him sticking his bum right out low down in my pelvis at about 14 weeks! I was pretty skinny then which I think it why it was so clear, but it was strange at the time.

she did it again squishy everywhere else (I know my baby is breech from scan) 🥲

I'm 33 weeks with breech/ transverse baby and they do the same thing! Mine doesn't visibly stick out that much but I have an anterior placenta so that's probably why. I'm 99% sure mine is baby and not BH as I'll feel them roll or shuffle around a bit in-between sticking out!

Caitlynandthecat · 30/06/2024 22:18

Try moxibustion, sounds mad but it works!

ladycarlotta · 01/07/2024 13:20

definitely NOT just Braxton Hicks! My breech baby also did this a few times, it was super weird! I could clearly see and feel her head moving down my side.

Unfortunately she didn't manage to turn herself but nor did an ECV - the consultant said she was firmly wedged bottom-down in my pelvis. But breech babies can and do flip with movements like this: get onto the Spinning Babies website if you aren't already. I did their exercises religiously and my baby really did her best to turn, bless her! I know she'd have managed it if she could have.

I ended up having a scheduled c-section and it was lovely - I can recommend it! - but your baby does still have time to find its way head down, so don't lose heart.
