When to see a Pelvic floor Physio

Hi all,

First time 26 weeks pregnant. I was reading a book about pregnancy and it says I had to start pelvic floor exercises before even getting pregnant.

Should I see a Pelvic floor Physio to make me a personalised plan? Or is it good enough to just you tube them from home? I was bleeding and had an SCH before so I have to avoid bending and haven't done much exercises because of that, needed to do full pelvic rest.

I'm having an elective C section, baby is expected to be scheduled earlier due to GD.

Please advise.

Hey hun. I’m 37+4, also have GD and I’m having a c section. I thought I prolapsed early on so panicked and started doing pelvic floor exercises from you tube but stopped 🫣 and it wasn’t a prolapse just a very swollen vagina. Anyway I haven’t bothered anymore exercises to be honest but I have been given a number for pelvic specialist on the NHS in my area who I’ve contacted and they’ve told me to get in contact after I’ve given birth and I’m up and moving as no point seeing them until the baby is here. Ask your midwife for details of your local Perinatal Pelvic Health Service, they’ve been so helpful so far x

I had to go see a private PF physio after the NHS brushed me off after my first baby - best thing I ever did! If you can afford it I thoroughly recommend, it's not routinely offered on the NHS and even when you do have issues tends to be too little too late

I would have to pay private to see this physio, it's not covered on my area; that's why asking if it's worth it.

Thanks for your feedback!

You can do pelvic floor exercises without seeing a physio, I'd only pay to see one if you have a particular issue or concern.
