ok so i know there are hundreds of you suffering like me at the moment and have had some great help from the guys on my ante natal thread but looking for help with my ms as its really getting me down.

so far i havent actually been sick its the nausea and odd pains in my stomach (also have a 21 month old!!). Im eating regularly (although not v healthily, just eating what i can stomach) so ive done the whole eating little and often, bland food etc. Tried coke, lemonade, ginger cordial. The main prob is the drinking, i just can not stomach any fluid and it is worrying me a bit. Today ive had in total 350ml to drink which is hard for me as i used to drink 2litres+ water a day.

I have also tried homeopathic nom vux which has helped a little bit. Just after any pearl of wisdom any of you have as ive really had enough and im only 7 weeks.

please please help

At the risk of reapeating myself (!) but saw this in a book the other day..

"It has been theorized that morning sickness occurs when sub-optimal quantities of water are consumed by the mother and the nausea that occurs during morning sickness may be a manifestation of thirst from the unborn foetus."

For me, after a couple of glasses of water the sickness definitely eases off.

I have 4dc and was sick as a dog with 3 of them, for the full 9 months! Nothing helped in the early weeks (up to 16) however in the mid to late weeks it did help to get fresh air and eat little and often.
Its an awful time but worth it in the end.

Hyperemesis is diagnosed based on weight loss and ketosis (marker of dehydration), amongst a few other things. "a couple of glasses of water" just doesn't cut it, as anyone who has been there will agree. It doesn't matter if this is achieved by nausea or vomiting, though you can stay hydrated a little more successfully if you aren't vomiting

Ask your GP for antiemetics. Dehydration is more damaging that some mild medications. OTC you can try vitamin B6, but you need big doses, 50-150mg a day. The nausea is really grim - and your physical and mental health will take a real downturn if you don't get yourself some help if you can.

Apparently my GP told me you are less likely to vomit very cold fluids - iceed drinks etc.

I am 17 weeks and have still got bad nausea, although not quite so bad as the early days!!

I am eating little and often and am finding nectarines helpful for some reason. Also rice cakes and anything starchy.

Cant do tap water at the moment as it tastes funny to me, but am drinking lots of bottled stuff. Try it with ice cubes and sip throughout the day.

Minkus, am off to Tesco now to buy a Jelly. Not feeling sick or anything but haven't eaten jelly since my student days when it was made with vodka. I really want one now - lime flavour I think. Obviously without the vodka.

I am 10 weeks and suffering !! found that Vit B6 in large doses made me worse big time. What I have found helps a bit is taking vitamin supplements before food not with or just after. Also I found that the Pregncare vitamins made the nausea worse when I forgot to take them I felt better so I tried a different make. It hasn't gone and maybe I am gripping at straws but like you all I am willing to try anything.
I can't cope with sparkling water and am swinging more towards carbs, pasta, gnocchi and sweet chilli sauce !!!! May it all pass for all of you that are suffering and we can get on and enjoy being pg !

Oh, Pregnacare made me a lot worse as well! Am on plain, blessedly small tablets of folic acid now (midwife said "at this stage it's a question of what you can stand, no more nor less").

Hi All, Am a new member to Mumsnet.

Am on my 3rd pregnancy and all I can say is it's been the best for sickness as I am abit older and wiser now!!!
chewing pure ginger helps, but to be honest I think it's more food avoidance than addition that seems to make a difference.
try and figure out what could trigger things off.
For me Onions, tomatoes and beans wre a no no. In fact I still avoid beans because of heartburn.
the comment on fizzy drinks is sooo true.
I find cold soda water works wonders and is healthier than coke.. Lucozade is also good though it does contain aspartame..
Wishing you all the best

Get plenty of rest. Get as much as you can. Early nights, and as many long lie - ins as possible. Take naps in the day as well. Your social life may suffer, but resting really helps being able to cope with nausia, I found. Accept all offers of help and just leave the housework. I fed my 19 month old son lots of quick simple meals, like toast just so I could chill out. He lived on snacks for 4 months!!

Take little walks most days, as fresh air and gentle excercise help too.

I found eating a rich tea biscuit before getting out of bed in the morning really helped. Eating bland food like pasta, and drinking plenty of dilute squash and water. Begging husband not to do suasage and bacon in the house was routine as well!!

Hang in there. I felt pants in the first trimester and then flippin brill from then on. And it is SO worth it!!

Some great advice here, but have to say that reading what some mums can stomach is turning mine!! lol

I'm still suffering with nausea with morning sickness with 2nd pregnancy, but with 1st I was physically sick (which was better in a weird way!) - this time round am coping better with jasmine tea and thai spicy crackers!
