Anterior placenta - 26 weeks

Hi,

Just looking for abit of advice. I have an anterior placenta and first felt flutters around 16 weeks and now I can definitely tell they are kicks at 26 weeks. However he still seems to have no pattern as such really, I have noticed he's not very active until around lunch time then he's active until I go to bed really.

However it's not really that frequent, like I can go an hour or two without feeling anything and online somewhere I read it says expect to feel movement every hour or so? What are your experiences with an anterior placenta and movement. I have spoken to my midwife she's not concerned she just said it's normal.

I've also explained to her that the anterior placenta is causing me anxiety and she just said try not to worry too much as it's normal for the placenta to cushion a lot of movement especially depending how he is laid. I know he moves alot as he is always very active on scans etc I just can't feel a lot of his movements.

Hi there it's another midwife here. You will start feeling more movement as he grows bigger. Try not to worry

Thankyou for replying, that's also what my midwife said too. I'm just anxious I guess

I had an anterior placenta and didn’t feel good movement until past 28 weeks. It got noticeably stronger then. Also right up until I gave birth I would need to concentrate to feel baby every couple of hours!

Thankyou for replying, his movement is definitely stronger but as you say I have to really concentrate every couple hours to feel him. It's mainly when I'm lying down that I feel him most. Hopefully his movements become more noticeable the further along I get x

Both my DSs were anterior. By about 30 weeks they were definitely making their presence very clearly felt. Notably the time DS1 kicked so hard that DH (lying next to me in bed) woke up.

Hopefully by the time I reach 30 weeks I will notice his movement more. I'm a first time mum so I worry over everything, especially movements.

Second pregnancy with anterior placenta here! Weirdly this baby is easier to feel (maybe because I’m a lot bigger this time so there’s more space), but with last one I really experienced the anxiety you’re describing, OP. It was pretty horrible. I definitely didn’t feel DD every 1 or 2 hours. And when I did feel her it was often so subtle I wasn’t even sure if it was movement or not. I kept being told by midwives to just get to know what is normal for you and your baby. So it’s good that you already notice a bit of a pattern to when you feel the most movements. And I’m sure it will get easier as your baby gets bigger. There’ll be a point when even your placenta can’t hide that you’ve got a big baby in there!
And if you’re ever worried just do go and get checked out. Apparently some women are in and out of maternity triage all the time for this reason. The midwives will always say they’re happy to check.

Thankyou for replying, I often question the same I wonder is it movement or not haha. Most of the time there's no denying it's him kicking/moving but some things I feel I don't know if it's him or something else. I'm glad someone else has experienced the same of not feeling baby move every 1-2 hours, when I read that you're supposed to feel them near enough every hour online I panicked because sometimes it's a couple of hours before I feel anything. I'm such a worrier anyway and I think I worry more now due to previous loss, but as you say I'm sure once he's bigger I'll 100% be able to feel him move more

I’m 27 weeks and like you am more likely to feel them when laying down. However in the last week I’ve noticed a couple of much stronger ones! One in the rib area and one lower left tummy that actually made me go ouch! It’s not a pattern yet though

@Mamtobe2024 I noticed the movement felt a lot different as he got stronger, I wasn’t sure what it was at first! First felt strong kicks lying on my side, then later started to feel him kicking my bladder and then ribs. I went on a holiday around 28 weeks and can remember not feeling much movement then unless lying down. It was probably closer to 29 - 30 weeks that I got the strong kicks.

Sorry for your previous loss OP 💐
I was in the same position.
