30 weeks along and this has been driving me nuts for the last 3 days. It's really bad at night. I itch ALL OVER, so it's not just the belly stretching. Legs, feet, back, boobs, thighs, just everywhere. I slathered myself in thick lotion before going to bed last night which helped a tiny bit for a short while. Woke up at 3am to pee and couldn't go back to sleep because I was so itchy again.

I briefly fell asleep around 6 and woke up screaming due to a horrendous leg cramp but that's another thread lol.

Please please is there a magic lotion to help? Antihistamines? I washed my nightdress and bedsheets after the first time it happened, with gentle non-perfumed detergent and it made no difference.

Please go to the maternity ward to be checked. This sounds like it could be cholestasis

Fishcake15 · 27/06/2024 15:36

Ask your Midwife to check this for you, it could be Cholostatis. Your Midwife can send off some bloods to check it out, there's no need to worry or panic xx

SnowSnow · 27/06/2024 15:37

Definitely call to be checked out. As per previous poster could be cholestasis.

BabyFedUp445 · 27/06/2024 15:38

Google on Cholestatis says the palms of my hand and soles of my feet should itch, but that's probably the only 2 areas that don't really?

Get checked out worst case they might be able to suggest something

Oneearringlost · 27/06/2024 15:40

Definitely midwife/maternity.
They'll need to check this out.
Probably be fine, but they'll want to take blood, test urine, look in your eyes.
All the best OP

Like PPs have said, get checked over at the maternity ward. I had something similar at the same stage of my pregnancy, which turned out which wasn't cholestasis, it was PUPPs or something, can't remember exactly. They couldn't really give me anything for it, just got told to have cool showers and take antihistamines 🙈

JKnight09 · 27/06/2024 15:46

I had this with my first, I scratched myself to the point of bleeding. My doctor gave me this awful thick lotion that was more like grease but the relief when it started working was unreal.

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 27/06/2024 16:12

I had cholostasis in 2 pregnancies and didn't get itchy hands and feet. Bump was the worst, followed by forearms and legs below the knee. If you get a test you will know for sure.

BabyFedUp445 · 27/06/2024 16:12

OK thanks everyone! I'll get it checked ASAP. Anyone else just have ALL the pregnancy symptoms?! Lol. It's like if you read a list of things that could happen in pregnancy - I've had them all!

Could be an iron deficiency - this was the reason I had itchy skin when I was pregnant - need bloods done to check.

BabyFedUp445 · 27/06/2024 20:43

By luck of the draw there was an opening this afternoon with the nurse and I went and got bloods done. Thank you all for your help, I thought I would be a time wasting idiot going with something so random!!! Nurse said this is not uncommon. You live and learn!

Update - my tests are all normal. No iron deficiency or cholestatis. I'm still itching all over. Dr gave me Aqueous cream but it's not doing much...any suggestions? Tried piriton in case it's an allergy and, while it knocks me out, it does nothing for the itch....

I had this in my first pregnancy! All tests came back clear, but I was just SO itchy. Midwives deduced it was due to my skin stretching (lol). Unfortunately nothing really helped, but slathering myself with heavy creams seemed to offer temporary relief.

ZogZig · 05/07/2024 04:08

Dermocool menthol cream absolutely saved me as I was the same. My GP prescribed it but it can also be bought in a pharmacy

You poor thing, it can actually make you feel like you're going insane. I gave up on aqueous cream and now use Hydromol. I use Elave shampoo, conditioner and shower gel so none of the run off irritates my skin. I use the menthol Aveeno afterwards. It doesn't fix it but I've definitely found my skin is less irritated. The Cetrine tablets are good too but not sure if they're okay in pregnancy....
