Diazepam as a one-off at 15 weeks

I need to go to the dentist and I cannot manage dental appointments without diazepam due to a crippling phobia that only started in adulthood. I have never taken diazepam for any other reason.

BNF indicates it is only unsafe close to term due to risk of withdrawal symptoms in pregnancy. I’m seeing my obstetrician next week and will mention it and see if he is happy to prescribe it for me, but I just wanted to ask if anyone here has taken it during pregnancy and all has been well.

Therapy to tackle my phobia is on the to-do list but it won’t help me by next week! Thanks all.

Typo in post that I can’t edit - should say withdrawal problems for newborn.

I took it when I was about 5-6 weeks pregnant , I didn't know I was pregnant at the time I had done a test and it was negative. my back seized up over Christmas a few years back and I couldn't move anyway i started spotting and I MC at 7 weeks and have always wondered if that was the cause I'll Never know but I'd never risk it again

If its that bad then i would, plenty wouldn't!

I had horrific pregnancy isonmia and i had to take sleeping tablets until 20 weeks.

My doctor prescribed it when I was pregnant. It'll be fine.

I start sobbing when I check in at reception for my appointment Blush

The appointment itself is generally me crying, shaking and hyperventilating (and that’s WITH diazepam in my system!), without is unmanageable and I don’t think I could even sit in the chair unmedicated now.

The phobia started when I was forced to watch brutal dental surgery as a first-year student nurse and wasn’t allowed to leave theatre even though I was in tears (I wasn’t scrubbed in, literally just observing but my ‘mentor’ was a complete bitch who I think enjoyed watching me suffer!)

Completely traumatised me for anything dental-related.

1 tablet diazepam at a dentist visit does absolutely no harm for you or your baby. Don't worry about it.
