International Travel while pregnant?

Hello,

we are trying to conceive and have been since last year. I have PCOS so that makes it a little harder. We have 2 weeks off Nov/Dec and don’t want to put off going on holiday and living our lives on the ‘just in case’ basis. We are aware it could take longer for us.
We’d love to go to Norway or New York but not sure which would be best if we happen to get pregnant in the months leading up to it. Has anyone been to these places while pregnant and how did you find it? Or would anyone recommend somewhere else? (We’re not a fan of hot holidays)

As a side note, we aren’t as active as we probably should be but that is down to knee and back issues but we wouldn’t let that stop us as we’d just go at our own pace.

Appreciate any advice on what to do! Thank you so much in advance!!

Book the holiday - like ypu say you can't put your life on hold and honestly if you don't book it while TTC in my opinion it will just add more pressure!

Most people are fine to travel until 28 weeks ish (I just came from my last pre-baby holiday at 27 weeks), and it doesn’t sound like you’re considering a 4-weeks desert hike far away from any medical provision. If you do get pregnant, look into travel insurance. The first trimester might be tricky due to nausea, if you’re unlucky, but that’s hard to predict. I’d go ahead and book, and if you can’t go for any reason then it is bad luck (while you’ll still enjoy being pregnant 😊)

I'd probably chose Norway if I was going to potentially be pregnant. New York is full on, medical costs could be ££ and complicated if needed. But definitely book something, you can't wait and you need to enjoy yourselves. I personally wouldn't want to travel long haul whilst pregnant, there are increased risks with long haul.

Book the holiday and pay for your travel insurance at the same time so if you end up with complications in/or a subsequent pregnancy that make travel impossible, you'll be covered. Both of the places you want to go have good hospital systems so you should be able to get help in the unlikely case it's needed!

(Also everyone is right that you won't mind cancelling if you do end up pregnant. I booked a much-plannes tattoo last year to happen in Feb this and then had to cancel it after falling pregnant in Jan but I didn't even mind losing the deposit 😅)

Hi OP, I went to New York in February when I was 14 weeks pregnant. I am overweight, yet found it absolutely fine as there is obviously a lot of walking involved. We just made sure we stopped for a break if I needed to. I have just come back from Cyprus, where I was 32 weeks on return, and it was very hot whilst there. The New York trip was a breeze compared to that! I would definitely go for it, just make sure your insurance is adequate by checking out the wording under the pregnancy section. Good luck with your pregnancy journey x

We took a long time when TTC so just continued to book holidays.
We found out we were expecting on holiday in Philadelphia, and then also went away to New York again when I was 13 weeks pregnant - both pre-booked holidays.
Was fine on both holidays, just make sure you have good travel insurance especially if travelling to USA.
Enjoy your holiday and good luck with your TTC journey 😊
