sorry for tmi.

it been non-stop for 3 days now. i feel exhuatsed.

i havent been hungrey today, but have had to eat. cant even keep a cup of tea down for long.

is my gp going to tell me just to get on with it, as they did with dd1+2, or will they take me seriously as the hospital did with dd3, and didnt let me out for 5days. last time they wanted to do extra scan in case i was carrying twins, as i was being sick past 12 weeks.

am only 9 weeks-ish. have been keeping water and coca-cola down though.

am so tired now after another hurling session, so may go crash now for the night.

get thee to a doctor woman! they can give you stuff to help with the sickness if you have hyperemesis
and if they don't offer it then ask

You can take stuff before 12 weeks - I did both times (cyclizine).

If your GP won't cooperate, make sure you tell him/her that you can't keep down water - they tend to take action if they think you're at serious risk of dehydration.

Much sympathy, it is unbelievably nasty.

michelleandkids · 08/04/2008 22:43

I'm on antisickness tabs at the mo i'm 11 weeks. I've also just stopped taking my folic acid as it was making me feel much worse. So far today have only had the nasseau thankfully and that I can cope with. I'm on Promethazine Teoclate (avomine) and it seems to be working.

chipmonkey · 08/04/2008 23:14

Sorry Kerrymum but your post sounds as if you would have been happier if it were expat, hopefully not true!

Oh, Misdee, I have been there! Truly horrible! I found Scottish oatcakes from the health food shop helpful, I used to nibble on them and they seemed to take the edge off the hunger pangs. Sort of kept the blood sugar levels up, I think.

pinkyminky · 08/04/2008 23:24

I had cyclizine too. Have had Hyperemesis twice it is horrid. Get to OBs and Gynae. We had to go through A&E as noone at gp's would listen to DH. But keeping water down is good news.

policywonk · 08/04/2008 23:27

Ah sorry misdee, misread your OP - you are keeping down water.

However, an unscrupulous person who wanted to obtain anti-emetics without having to crawl on her hands and knees might choose to be economical with the truth...

much sympathy misdee, I had hyperemesis in both pregnancies, it's torture, mentally and physically.

Good luck at the doctors, I found I had to really beg for the anti-emetics both times as they arent too keen on prescribing them. On my 2nd pregnancy I was taking medication from 6 weeks so it shouldnt be a problem that you are pre 12 weeks atm.

scottishmummy · 09/04/2008 08:34

awww total sympathy it is rotten to be hurling and wretching. see gp for anti-emetics. good luck

AHLH · 09/04/2008 09:01

Misdee much sympathy here. I was in and out of hospital with hyperemisis from week 9 - week 14. At one point I was so bad I coudln't shower or brush my teeth (very smely experience for all concerned) and lost 21 lbs in 5 weeks and it took 10 days on a drip to rehydrate me. I was alternating between cyclizine, stemetil and metroclopromide.

Fortunatley for you, all the docs and nurses said I was the worst case of hyperemisis they'd seen. So in short, I'm agreeing with everyone else. Cajole your GP into giving you anti-emetics, by fair means or foul!

Been home for 3 weeks now. Sickness just kind of switched off about 2 and a half weeks ago. have started back at work part time. Digestion seems to have returned to normal, appetite returning gradually too.

TheMuppetMuggle · 09/04/2008 09:15

sorry your feeling pants misdee, hope you get it sorted soon. x

scottishmummy · 09/04/2008 09:55

i also had nausea++++ only know do colleagues tell me how awful it was for them too!i retched really loudly baareeeeuughhh for 9months and habitually looked green

biglips · 09/04/2008 10:02

i told a mn on here to sniff a lemon and it works!! chop it in half and keep it in the fridge to keep it fresh. whenever u starting to be sick, sniff the lemon. i read it in a pg book.

worth a try!

and congrats on ya pg too

Diege · 09/04/2008 10:27

Misdee, I second what policywonk says about how to approach GP. I've had hyperemesis with 2 out of 3 dds, and the criteria for meds (with my gp at least) is NOT being able to keep fluids down. So yes, would suggest being economical with the truth as it's a rule made up by those who have never been anywhere close to HG, and (as with my GP) seem to think a ginger biscuit and gaviscon will do the job!

scottishmummy · 09/04/2008 10:53

ah feckin ginger biscuits!after vomiting copiously i had mw say straightfaced this.University trained and best advice a farkin biscuit

pinkyminky · 09/04/2008 11:16

Hope you get some joy with your GP. I spent weeks in hospital last time- couldn't swallow. Took cyclizine for most of pg from 7 weeks onwards. Remember concerned shoppers at supermarket wanting to call me an ambulance I looked soo healthy! Doesn't sound like you are keeping much fluid down, so you wouldn't be fibbing too much! Good luck.

Minkus · 09/04/2008 16:58

This is a brilliant website for other self help tips, www.hyperemesis.org.uk/.

I'm 27 wks with dc2 and have had hyperemesis this time round as well as with ds so know how revolting and wretched the continuous vomiting is. I couldn't keep down my own saliva, and just breathing through my mouth made me vomit as the air passing my gullet would set me off! Puked blood and all sorts, because none of the drugs prescribed up to that point had worked. Hospitalised 5 times. I'm going back to work on Monday for the first time since early November . I do hope though that things aren't this severe for you, sure they won't be!

Agree with other posters- be insistent with your doctor, if he/she is still not going to prescribe something try and see another one.

In the end I phoned nhs direct, explained my symptoms and they said I should go to a&e. As I had experienced streaks of blood in the liquid I was bringing up, there was a small chance that the vomiting could have been caused by a bacterial (perhaps?) infection called h. pylori. As it ends up it was only where I'd been sick so much there was a little tear deep down in my throat- as policywonk says an unscrupulous person could imagine that they had seen such streaks too and might get referred the same way... although you do run the risk of being admitted to hospital for a few days, they may just be able to prescribe you something that helps.

Good luck, really hope they sort this out for you xxxx
